They are rich, they can manage...

That is disgusting!!! Inhuman. Inconsiderate. So ...when California calamity struck...and I was feeling bad, I voiced it. Dad said that...that is nothing for them... Nope..that is something for them!!! The point is ..people do not realize it!!! Richness is relative term. I can live well in 500 dollars. In the US you need at least 1500 to maintain that standard! Merely because they seem to have better pay scales, does not mean they have more than enough to surface from the problem!!! It is relative...all people need to consider it from relative angle ..be it Indians trying to relocate or being Indians reaching them with begging bowls. In any event, it is morally wrong to be taking advantage of others and trying to look the other way when they are in pain.

Thank you for that. Fire does not discriminate, it strikes anything in it's way and if it is not put out it destroys indiscriminately, being rich does not mean a fire will not kill you if you happen to be in the way.

Nature does not discriminate..neither do germs. Exactly...but there should be a way to have buildings that withstand regional calamities and climates.

@rebelann .. Well, not really. But that makes me wonder why is it that only that part of the world faces such calamities. We have dense forests too, and we have lightening as well as strong storms and breezes. Is it the selection of trees?

I am terribly sorry that so many calamities are striking your country. Houston did make me think something needs to be done, but what can we do here? I can only say sorry.

What happens in California right now is tragic. Many people will lose their house and it's pretty sure it was not even paid and may be they are not insured. Starting your life from scratch, may be when you are in your 50's or 60's or even more is tragic, even if you have a bit of money.

Exactly Anna...something my 83 years old papa is not able to understand. Most people have only one home. They also are near end term of their home loans. I cleared my home loans last year. I am 58. So if I was to lose a home or have problems with it, it creates a panic.

@LadyDuck .. Sensitivity is needed..ironically, on micro scale he understands...as long as it relates to either him or me or his relatives. But not on macro scale. I think that attitude is selfish to say the least.

@vandana7 It would be a serious problem for us if something like this should happen. The home is insured, but all what is inside is lost. All your memories, everything you owned, your photos, your computers, your clothing. I do not even want to think how horrible this would be.

I wish people in my country would realize that. But I think they ignore it, because it is convenient to ignore it, it serves their purpose.

I would tell that it is wrong only if the pain is not a consequence of a fault. It is the case when a natural disaster like this happens, not when it is the result of an economical or political choice.

Even then, a common man cannot take a decision that big and is forced rely on one of the few candidates.

Many people are not rich in California. Even if they make a high income, the cost of living is outrageous. Homelessness is a HUGE problem in our state. Not to mention, some of the communities that have been effected are poorer ones (up here in northern California where I live.) We are not all millionaires living in Hollywood. But I can understand why your dad would think that, as many people do. The fires here are a huge disaster. The flooding and other damage from the recent hurricanes in Texas and Florida were huge disasters. Not to mention those in the Caribbean and Puerto Rico. It will take people a long time to rebuild. Some may never be able to recover. It is the same no matter where you live, and how much money you have, when a disaster strikes.

I agree with you. Being rich does not make losing a home due to a terrible disaster any less traumatic. Loss is loss whether rich or poor.

I agree. They may have monies in stocks and whatever. They may have found a way to hide important documents or kept it all in online resources. But in the end it is their home that they have lost, and a life they were accustomed to, and many many nights from here on, they would wake up thinking there is fire somewhere..my heart goes out to them.
