Most vulnerable in our islands is the south border. That is where the terrorist try to enter our country, and wreak havoc on our otherwise quiet and peaceful tribes. Five months ago, the terrorists led by Omar Maute and Isnilon Hapilon, with allegiance to foreign ISIS ideology, claimed a stake at Marawi, the most endearing of communities in the south, with the land endowed with natural air and beauty. The Armed Forces of the Philippines quickly moved the civilians out of Marawi, triangulated and secured the borders. Not fast enough to retake the civilian hostages. A war ensued. Marawi was pulverized by air strikes and non-stop gunfire. Casulaties were tallied. Soldiers down. Innocent children were laid to rest. Today however is a different day. Maute and Hapilon are killed. Marawi is being retaken. Hope the ruins of was are cleaned at once, and the people can get back to their land and begin again.

Speaking of good news, this is a good news. With retaking the city of Marawi and so with peace and beauty of it.

I did feel relief. Terrorism can never be justified by any ideology nor religion. Killing is a beastly act. Those who sowed terror die from it. News come to us daily, some good, many bad. In considering this good news, I can only think of the horror that is the people of Marawi. Sufferance has just been rendered over. Thing is, there is nothing to go back to in Marawi.

@ilocosboy my daughter is one of the people planning for the initial rebuilding of Marawi. It is a difficult task. Marawi was pulverized. The rehabilitation comes first. I think diseases have spread. Things have a way of coming back. If this happens, well and good.

comes next is the rehabilitation of Marawi. It will never go back to its previous glory and so with the memories and stories. The only consolation, you guys, can think is the new beginning, hoping it will be a brighter future for this bullet-ridden place.

Have you seen the pictures of Omar Maute and Hapilon? Too graphic to describe but glad they got them, now I hope Muslims and Christians could again live in peace together.

One site, Interaksyon, I believe, did not censor the bullet blown faces, according to my daughter. When I checked, I only had the blurred photos on screen. There might be PG restrictions on such news. Personally, I am for no censor on such cases. Let every one see the faces of those who brought terror in Marawi. The children might be too little to understand but they must know what is happening in the world today.

There are no victors in war only tyrants and victims.

@eileenleyva so true. An impeachment should happen soon. It will deescalate the situation and hopefully a nuclear war won't happen.

I saw it in a flash, the Korean Peninsula is on a Touch and Go mode. Meaning, a nuke war is about to erupt. There are no victors, yes. More gravely for all of us dwellers of this planet earth, annihilation is in the offing. Get ready, allen0187, keep your prayers for loved ones, survival is of the essence. Sigh.
