Good Evening vs. Good night?

What is the main difference anyway? Can you explain how you personally use it? Do you get any really relevant difference in their uses? I can't see anything so relevant because you'll be able to get others to understand you anyway.

Good evening can be used in greeting as well as leaving, Good night is usually a conversation ender. Evening, from 4pm to 8pm, night from 8pm to midnight.
