The 14 diyas has huge significance in Deepawali.

As Deepawali is the festival of lights, there is also a sense of victory of good forces over evil forces. On the Bhut Chaturdashi, the 14th day, the amabasya leads to dark nights, when visibility is possible with lights. The 14 diyas symbolise chaturdashi and these lights are kept at every part of the house, balconies, doors, entrance areas, so the good forces are symbolized with light in India.
