I came across this food article from Meridian Health.org for those looking for natural ways to protect against disease. The article suggested these foods as ones you should take advantage of when planning your fall menus.
Here is the list and benefits of each item:
1. Yams (sweet potatoes)- a fiber rich veggie. Contains potassium to control high blood pressure and vitamin A which boosts your immune system.
2. Cauliflower- A non-starch vegetable full of vitamins and minerals. They contain phytochemicals which keep your arteries clear and provide better heart health.
3. Brussel Sprouts- Low in calories, but high in vitamin C. They contain antioxidants, protecting your cells and possibly providing help in fighting cancers.
4. Grapes- Autumn is a great time for buying grapes because they are in peak season and very tasty. May contain the same antioxidants found in red wine beneficial for heart health.
5 Apples- Full of fiber which fills you up to help with weight control. Also helps with your heart. "An apple a day keeps the Doctor away."
Eating these foods provide an excellent way to stay healthy and boost your immunity to disease. Lucky for me I like some of these food items and eat them quite often. How about you? Are there other healthy food items we should be eating worth mentioning?

@LadyDuck I read that cabbage is an excellent source of vitamin K, vitamin C and vitamin B6. So, that is a good item to add to the list.

Brussel sprouts are from the cabbage family. They are green leafy vegetables with edible buds on them. I like apples, but not a fan of Brussel sprouts.

Yes.
Even if the tomatoes go a bit off I can still use them for juice and other things to flavour bean stews and such.

These are five foods we eat quite often, but grapes, I usually eat them in the form of raisins. It's fairly easy to eat healthy, when we eat fresh foods, instead of highly processed products.
