Blue skies. Autumn winds. Rain last night. Hints of worse coming next month. First of next month it will be legal for me to have the studded tires put on my car. Yippeee. The hens are molting- losing their feathers. This means that we barely get any eggs though they keep griping about needing me to pull alfalfa for them. I want to make cornbread for supper tonight but guess what?? I need an egg for the bread. The Arucana hen was a sweety today. She laid me a nice blue egg. The Buff Orpington also forked over an egg- I can tell it was hers cause its a jumbo, brown egg. Hubby ground some corn and now I'm all set to quit yaking here and get to making cornbread. I'll toss together some chili to go with it. Chili is the easiest thing on the planet to make. Grab some cans and turn a burner on. There's still garden tomatoes that need using so its a perfect day for chili.

@rebelann If you don't go for fancy, chili is easy. Tonight I had garden tomatoes going bad so I fried them in a little olive oil with a little crookneck squash that was also going spongy; I chopped onions in there, too. A little later I dumped in some of a packet of chili seasoning. Later yet I opened a can of kidney beans and a can of tomatoes and dumped them in to the first stuff. Let it all boil gently. I added cayenne to hubbys but not mine. Not fancy. Got the job done. Add any bean that suits you. Add green peppers etc.

That reminds me @sallypup I've run out of pinto beans, those are my favorites. Looks like all it takes is just putting soup stuff together and ya call it chili, I can do that.

@rebelann Exactly. UNLESS you go all snooty and insist on cooking up an exotic meat and putting in exotic peppers. People go nuts over how to make chili. I have used all kinds of beans in it and I've added chopped, cooked yams in there, too and carrots. Just depends on your liking.
