Do you follow the "No Sewing on sundays"?

Its Sunday and I so desperately want to sew today! My husband follows the old tradition/ rule that no one is allowed to sew on Sundays. His mom wouldn't sew on this day either, which is where I believe he picked up this "rule". I didn't finish my sewing project and the countdown is on for it to be completed by a certain day way to close. My fingers are itching to get to sewing the final touches on a few things important to my daughters. I just don't want to run the risk of actually sewing on a Sunday. I accidentally did once on my sewing machine and my needle broke (it was my only one at the time!). So I had to wait awhile til next pay to buy new needles. Then another day I accidentally sewed on Sunday, thinking it was another day (husband had his normal days off on different days...) and the entire project I had hand-sewn had to be taken out because I sewed the project together wrong sides in! So I don't think its worth the risk of bad luck for me... Do you sew on Sundays?

I find this 'rule' utterly absurd. This is superstition from the Dark Ages.

true, it also might be a view of contexts that have changed. Sewing use to be labor/work for people if they wanted clothes and other linens. Nowadays, its really a hobby for majority.

kudos to you!!! share some luck this way! I tend to find good luck coins and have many blessings that I'm thankful for which is why I'm torn on sewing on sundays. Do I want to risk possible bad luck?

@YesWay I thought cutting some material would be okay, since it wasn't technically sewing.... I cut the piece going the wrong way and there is no way to get more material! I could cry but thankfully, I think I found a solution. :)

I sew when the inclination hits. No regard to day of the week. I make sure my supplies are always available. Sewing machine needles break....more often because I'm in a hurry than because of any day of the week.

good to know that about needles breaking. I'm still new to using mine which was an amazing gift. Its a vintage one so I tend to go real slow for fear of breaking it or getting my fingers caught!

My husband told me about it! It was one of his mother's rules she followed because its generally said, all stitches sewn on sundays have to be torn out when in heaven.

@Daelii I'll make time for them when they get home. It's been almost 7 months since I've seen them in person.

I have never heard of such a rule. I am going to mend a couple of things. I sew any day.

I never heard about it either until my husband! Its an old religious notion about having to tear out each stitch you sewed on a sunday when you get to heaven.

I'm not superstitious at all. I don't sew either but, if I did, I would TOTALLY sew on a Sunday if I wanted to.

This is just a belief that you should do away with. I think the more you believe it the more something happens when you sew on a Sunday.

well not on Sundays our folks here in the Philippines would not let us sew during holy week as just in case your fingers gets prick on the needle it won't heal..in my part if it is superstitious belief i let them be,my reason is just simple to respect the occasion is all.

I never heard about the wounds not healing on sundays! Its real neat to learn about the different variations of superstitious beliefs. I'm glad I didn't sew yesterday!
