How Long Do You Think Virily Will Last?

I reluctantly climbed aboard the Virily train last June and then forgot I had. I had so many friends joining after Niume closed that I decided to join so I could help them. That's when I discovered I was already a member. I now have four posts up, but I'm not optimistic that the site will last much longer than Bubblews, Niume, and many others that are now history. Besides that, I'm not even enjoying it much. I find it much harder to use than Niume. When I create, I'm never sure that the post will stay the way I intended when I published. There's not enough documentation to be able to predict that. It's not really a writing site but another social blogging network, and I believe that dooms it. People can earn many points without ever publishing, and many people may try to get to a payout without ever publishing. Without quality content, the site will depend only on internal traffic, and most of that will not click on ads. If the site cannot make money, it will not be able to pay its contributors. It reminds me a bit of Tsu and RedGage. RedGage is still around, but I gave up on it years ago when for a time nothing seemed to work. I've never liked the way they pay. Do you think Virily is worth the time investment one needs to make to get a payout? If you are a Virily user, do you enjoy it? What do you like or dislike about the site? I personally have come to the conclusion my time is better spent right here on myLot. So far myLot has lasted longer than any of these sites which make promises they don't keep.

I guess they didn't make money. At least they gave us warning they were closing so we could save our work. Of course, I'd seen the handwriting on the wall when they stopped paying and I'd already saved my work.

@bagarad was the niume model sustainable in the first place?

It wasn't solvent and shut down. I think it gave us warning it would, but I don't remember for sure. I wasn't all that active toward the end. It was just too big and unwieldy with all kinds of groups and changes on how they handled them, etc. I couldn't handle all the changes.

I have not heard of that site nor do I intend to join any other more writing sites except Mylot because of time restraint. I would trust my gut feeling if I were you cause it's based on previous past experiences

It's so tempting to jump in with both feet because I'm competitive and they have a leaderboard and ranks, etc. to motivate people to be active. It's almost like a game. I'm not a gamer, but I do like climbing a leaderboard. My rational mind tells me to check in daily, comment on posts of friends, and post only if I feel like it with something I really couldn't post elsewhere anyway. Then I can consider it recreation and networking without worrying about losing my work or being obsessed about payouts. My rational mind says to work on my own sites first and only play around at Virily when I'm too tired to do anything serious.

@tallawah So am I, but I want it somewhere that won't disappear when a site owner gives up on the site.

I think Tuetego might be better. However, none of the new stuff is a patch on the old when it comes to how you present the article. I keep saying Mylot needs a sister site! Only here does there seem to be a formula that works.

@Jackalyn Persona Paper is there and a few still post or comment, but they still aren't back to paying. It's more like just keeping in touch now.

@bagarad Yes, I feel bad I don't go there as often as I should. I wish they could restart as they are still a great place to write and better than manyl

I haven't heard of Virily and I didn't know Niume had closed. I haven't been on there for quite a while - obviously!

@Jackalyn I couldn't either and some of the artwork was way out there - which is fine but it just wasn't me.

I think they make that as hard to understand as possible. I hope it lasts long enough for me to get paid.

It took a lot of coaxing to get me to try Niume. No sooner than I signed up, the site closed down. So when Virily came on the scene right after that, it took some persuading to get me to sign up. But I did sign up and I have been there for 2 years. Like every new site, Virily has its growing pains. But it has been 2 years so far and I am enjoying my experience at the site.

I usually join all these new sites just to evaluate them and post a review on my blog. Every new site I've joined lately except Virily folded.

Only thing I do on Virily is take quizzes (and leave a comment with my score, etc.), which is rather fun, and publish my own quizzes. Once in a blue moon I may check out an actual article/post but that's about it. I don't publish any content on there. I don't think Virily will be around forever, but I think for now it's not going anywhere. If it does close its doors I hope it's after I made payout. On Niume I was up to around seven bucks when it closed. Never made it to the $10 minimum, so never got paid what I had made, which was rather upsetting. I earned three badges on Virily and am now withing the $2-$3 range. I think I joined in mid-August. Wonder what month it will be when I hit $10.

It's still here a year later and I did get paid. I just don't want to work there anymore since I'm not sure I'll work up to another payment before they could disappear. OTOH they may still be here a year from now.

I've been there since May of 2017...and I like it there except for the issues they've had. I earn the most through there right now....but I am giving MyLot a try now :)

It's supposed to be easy to post there, but I guess I'm seeing as complex what others see as simple. Very few people do any serious writing there. It's mostly photo sharing, making quizzes, or writing "stories" that readers can break by voting parts of them up and down. You can also make lists, open or closed. I thought it would be more like Niume, which I loved, but it isn't.

Do you write anywhere else but here? Do you have your own blog? This is a great way to stay in touch with those you know or have known on other sites. I have several of my own blogs, and I'm now investing my time mostly into those. Transferring work from one failed site to another that will probably also fail is a pain. I'm expecting to wake up one day and find out BlogJob is gone, too. I've already made copies of all my posts there. I can easily import them into my own sites when I am ready. I'm not saying people should stay away from Virily. Many excellent writers are there, but there are more leeches who never post than writers who do. I just wouldn't expect to earn much there, and I wouldn't depend on ever reaching payout more than once or twice. If you enjoy their format and all the networking, go for it. I'm tired of trying to think of responses to one or two word comments and not keep repeating myself.
