Time to Winterize Our Gardens for the long winter

We all live in different areas in the world so we all have different habits about how we winterizer our gardens. Some people do not have to do anything as the winter is basically the same year round. I am so use to living in the northeast of the United States and had a lot to do before the long cold months were upon us. Now that I am in the deep south, there is not as much to do but I still have a few things. What do you have to do with your gardens during the winter?

I don't have to do very much most of the time, this year is most likely going to be mild but even so, it's never easy for the weather guy to know what's going to happen here.

That's what it's like here @ramapo17 I call this time of year the seasaw season, one of them at least, we tend to have 2 seasaw seasons, one when it should be the end of winter and part of spring and the other falls this time of year.

Here in my area of Florida it is so weird. One day it is still hot and another day starts of cool but changes to hot again.

We don't really do much but there are some plants that won't grow during the colder months and some that can't stand the hot summers. We might move a few plants in and out of shelter but that's about it.

@ramapo17 We might get a few frosts each winter but that's about it.

None at all since it's summer all year long here.

@toniganzon It is a very beautiful time of year if you are in the right locations. The mountains are so beautiful with the snow on them and the people skiing down the slopes or the people ice skating.

This is the first time I see the word 'winterise'. Are there similar words for the other seasons as well?

The only other one I know of is summerize. I don't know about the spring and fall. Maybe we can create one.

@ramapo17 The terms for spring and fall would sound odd, wouldn't they? According to my dictionary, they don't exist.

Do you ever get a break from gardening in the south? I still have beets and carrots in the garden. It is -10°C And 10cm of snow are covering the garden. I am taking a break from gardening ready or not.

Right now I am not doing a lot of gardening. I do not have to go out in the heat like I do in the summer and I don't have to water much. It is kind of boring now.

I plant cold weather crops, and since you are further down South than me you can raise food all year round. I have kale, collards, turnip greens and mustard greens, one small row of beets. You can raise cabbage but I`m not this time around.

I was never into planting vegetables. I use to do tomatoes because my father started them from seeds and he always had over 100 of them. After he gave some to his friends I got the rest.

I only have a few plants that need to be moved inside the greenhouse. During the years, I have only planted local shrubs, bushes and plants that can resist the cold.
