What are some "odd" phrases we use in the English language? I'll start with a few for example purpose. 1. Tie your shoes-why not shoe laces? 2. Time to hit the hay-this means go to sleep 3. Early bird gets the worm 4. Your alarm is going off- which really means the sound is on, but we use off.. even if we were to say "turn off the alarm." 5. I bombed my quiz vs this steak is so bomb! - sounds like bomb can be good and bad, which is so weird. 6. (Makeup Reference) Let me beat your face. -it means let me do a full face of makeup on you. 7. Cakeface- to have makeup on. "I caked my face." 8. I ate it. - You were doing something then fell (usually face down on the ground type of fall) 9. Running late -but you're not actually "running" 10. Email reply: "looking forward to hearing back from you soon." You can't "hear" an email lol. 11. Then there's phrases like "I'm shook" "it's lit" which I despise so much, and find those phrases so annoying lol. 12. Cashier: "may I ring these up for you?" Like why do we say "ring" ? There's no ring involved.. are you gonna "ring" me by my ears? 13. Ring the doorbell- why not just say press the doorbell? Why do we say "ring"? Lol. 14. You drive me insane- like I don't even have my license yet, so how can I even drive anyone? Haha. 15. I fell for you/Falling for you- why would you want to fall in purpose lol. Well those are a few to start with!

I like how you said "write" instead of "right" haha. Glad to know people still have a sense of humor.

Such idiomatic phrases exist in ALL languages and are nothing special belonging only to English. You can stop here, btw, as you've copied them from the internet which is not allowed on myLot.
