Flying Taxi's

Who wants to be first in line to fly in an Uber Taxi? Like we don't have enough 'things' flying around in the air. It seems that NASA and Uber have decided to come up with a taxi similar in style to a drone; much larger of course. The trial runs will be in Los Angeles, Dubai, Ft. Worth and Dallas hopefully in the year 2020. These gems will fly at a low altitude and cost the same as riding in an Uber car. The hope is that by 2028, they will be available for the Olympics in Los Angeles. Considering some regular sized airplanes have been downed by birds flying into the engine, I can't quite see an Uber Taxi surviving a group of: geese, pigeons, crows or any other low-flying critter. Sorry, I'd rather hitchhike.
Uber will be working with NASA to figure out traffic management for flying cars.

While I would tend to agree with you--there is a one thing to consider. I saw in a video how these drones have safety features and there have been some improvements but I might be hesitant too. I like my feet on the earth.

I'm wondering for sure if they are going to be piloted or on autopilot @Montecristodog .

Was it wrong that I giggled when I read you'd rather hitch hike? That was a brief thought of mine but then the "It could be fun" chimed in too. So I'd try it, if only once, to see what its like. It could be a cool thing if its done with things to conserve on gas and get away with the poor energy and material use.

And make sure you wear a floating skirt as a substitute parachute @Daelii .

I am not afraid of the flight. I just think it is not very environmental to have flying taxi. It must be something expensive and not many people can afford to it. And rich people may have their own jets

I have never used Uber so I am thinking this taxi is not for me.

Hitchhiking is probably safer.

Let the tests be over. We have to be very careful with the birds hitting it. We have prepared mentally to take that taxi in the first instance.

I don't think I'd be keen to try that either.

The concept sounds intriguing. Will it work? I personally think I'd be hesitant to use it...the skies seem to be full of near misses...let's add to the congestion.
