Suggestions for the Next Democrats for President 2020

People are already talking about who should run for President in 2020, even though that election is still three years away. Some people are talking about Joe Biden; others are talking about Bernie Sanders. No one seems to be talking about Hillary Clinton. However, I think the Democrats need some younger, fresher faces. They need enthusiastic Progressives who can connect with both young adults, as well as minorities. They need high energy, intelligent individuals who could energize the base and encourage people to turn out and vote. I believe the Democrats need to do two things: First, they need to clean house of anyone in their party or who is a major donor to the party and is anything like Harvey Weinstein who turned out to be a sleazy rapist. There are a number of other disgusting, old sexual predators who need to removed from both political parties, as well. Second, they need to put together a ticket with these two candidates (either of whom could be effective as President or Vice-President): Representative Joe Kennedy Senator Corey Booker The photo of Joe Kennedy is above. Here is a link to the Twitter Feed of Corey Booker ... so you can see pictures of him, too. Both of these men are currently in Congress. They are experienced politicians who have won elections. One is white; one is black. They are both intelligent, well-spoken, thoughtful, caring and want to improve the lives of people in this country. They both have name recognition for many Progressives. If the Democrats want to succeed in 2020, they need to get people enthused about voting for new people. Why not give these men a chance?

@rebelann - I was a Ross Perot, Third Party Candidate, in the early 1990s. Tell me more about Todd Gates. I think it is fair for people to know all their options.

I think he's the leader of the Seneca @DeborahDiane I honestly believe it's high time we had a Native American as president, it's their right to hold that position.

@rebelann - You make an excellent point. At the very least, Todd Gates should run and state his case.

I like that ticket. I would also support Elizabeth Warren being on a ticket. She is awesome and totally fearless. I LOVE Bernie but I think he will be too old and his time has passed. Hillary is a has-been at this point. She would be toxic to any ticket. Booker is going to have to start making some waves and attracting some national attention. I know about him because I'm from New Jersey. Not sure that he is widely known outside the state, though.

@NJChicaa - I like Elizabeth Warren, too. She is definitely a possibility. I agree that Bernie is too old and Hillary is a has-been. I don't understand why the current Republicans in power are even giving her publicity anymore. I know about Corey Booker and I'm from California. Everything I have seen about him has impressed me. I also follow Joe Kennedy on Facebook and I think he is inspiring and charming. Those are refreshing traits after our current president. I remember how much everyone loved the charming Fords after the Nixon years. I think that could definitely be a benefit in a post-Trump administration.

Yes, the American people need some new blood, but "no tainted blood" please. Extremely hard to find.

@DeborahDiane I guess whoever is vetting is not doing an excellent job.

@marlina - You are right! We need to do a better job of vetting our political candidates before they run for office!

@marlina - Ha ha! They are definitely NOT doing an excellent job. In fact, I don't think any attempt is even being made anymore to vet candidates. A Republican analyst was on TV today talking about candidates from a couple of decades ago who lost the support of their political parties when they were engaged in a scandal. Boom! They were out of the race. Today, no scandal seems to matter. The candidates and the voters just don't seem to care any more. The morals and ethics of our country have dropped to all-time lows.

I think you need a younger president than Hilary Clinton, she would be too old at the next elections.

@DeborahDiane If there is a legal age to retire, also the politicians should be retired when they reach that age. We slow down with the age, we are less open minded, we do not see things the same way of enthusiast young people. In Italy most of the politicians are well over their 70's and you see how the country is ruled, by people with senile dementia.

@LadyDuck - I agree. I will be in my 70's at the time of our next presidential election and even I am tired of our country being run by a bunch of old, white men who refuse to move aside and make room for younger, better qualified candidates. Recently, a pharmacist who delivers prescriptions to Congress admitted that several of them are all medications for dementia. It is time for them to retire!! I think we need a younger President, as well.

@LadyDuck - I wish we had a mandatory retirement age in the U.S. for politicians. Some of them are already in their 80s and have no plans to retire. I think that is terrible!

I like the idea of Joe Kennedy and was impressed by Tim Kaine when he ran as Hillary's VP candidate. While I think Corey Booker is well qualified, after the hatred spewed at President Obama, I wonder if a person of color will run again this time. I like Warren a lot, but am afraid that she will be branded with that "angry woman" label. This next election will be a very difficult one I know. Many are speculating that as many as ten Democrats may seek the presidency.

You make some excellent points about our choices. I was also impressed by Tim Kaine. He would be another good choice. I'm sure we will have a lot of candidates on the Democratic side. I hope they can narrow the field without doing too much damage to each other through negative campaigning. Sometimes the candidates hurt each other so much during the primaries, that they do the job of the opposing party.

@JudyEv - I agree! I will be in my 70's at the time of our next presidential election and I have gotten tired of seeing our country run by a bunch of old, white, prejudiced and inflexible men. We really do need new, younger blood. Some old men may do fine, but I think it is time for them to step aside for a new generation and new ideas.

I'd intended to respond to this discussion days ago but somehow I kept getting sidetracked. I really like your two picks there, I'd been thinking about the same thing and they're two I've had in mind. I've heard it said on the news networks that the Democrats have no "new blood" and don't have a "deep bench" and I beg to differ. Kennedy and Booker are just two great examples of younger "up-and-comers" they have to choose from. Kamala Harris is also impressive as is Kirsten Gillibrand. I've also always liked Sherrod Brown a lot. I have to admit that while I agree we need younger blood I wouldn't be too upset if we ended up with a "President Biden", "President Sanders" or "President Warren" especially when you look at the freak in our people's house now. Whatever the case we need a strong and compassionate leader to get rid of the stench that will already be hard to remove from the White House. The Presidency has been so disgraced and degraded I'm afraid I won't live to see it restored.

@jstory07 - I agree! We need fresh faces, new politicians ... not the same old tired ones who have run for president over and over again.
