the fight

November 10, 2017 11:59am CST
Autumn and Winter are having a fight. Well, it's more of a scuffle really. I think that Winter is winning, although the young lady in the sports shorts walking along beside the bus must think otherwise. The ground is littered with Autumn's leaves. After the heavy rainfall of the last day or two they are sludgy and not fun for jumping in; they lack that crisp Autumn crunch. The trees wave their nearly bare branches in a light Autumnal breeze. But Winter has added a chill to the light breeze and sent skies which seem full of snow-laden clouds. It will not snow. It never snows anymore. Yet it feels as though it will snow. The very air has that feel to it. There was an attempt at rain earlier whilst we were tottering around town with the Grumbling Lady {or Nanna, as she is better known, and she's not a Lady at all}. It was icy cold and verging on sleet. I think I am going to have to relent and allow the heating to go on tonight. It is Husband's birthday, so it seems fair that he should be cosy comfortable. We went to pretend London today. We visited the pretend chimpanzees in the pretend zoo and had a pretend tea-party with them which ended in a pretend food fight. There was pretend chocolate cake everywhere! We also went to the pretend chocolate factory twice, where we sampled divinely yummy pretend chocolates and went to a pretend animal show. But then Nanna spoilt it by treading all over the parrots. You trod on my show!! declared Toddler Niece, incredulously. Grumpy Pants just huffled and puffled and wheezed herself back into the kitchen. Imagination is a wonderful thing, until you realise that you spent a good hour or so washing you hair, having a bath, cleaning your teeth and eating your breakfast, multiplied by ten hundred thousand. It's now the weekend! And I have Krispy Kreme Doughnuts instead of a birthday cake! And, they're not even pretend!

I think they're more exhausting than real days out. I don't know where two year olds get their energy from!

@poppylicious My weather sensitive left ankle says there will be no snow. It would ache otherwise and it's very reliable..

@Poppylicious It rarely speaks unless I go over on it and then the air goes blue around it. Never heard such a foul-mouthed ankle in all my puff.

I'd like Autumn to stick around a little longer. I like his temperament and quirkiness.

Oh, in Glasgow three weeks back, I found Greggs' caramel custard doughnut to be much better value, and just as tasty... Enjoy the Krispy Kreme, just stand well back when you light the candles ;)

Greggs do do some very lovely stuff. I didn't have any candles, but he did have candles at my MiL's today!

Sounds like a fun day - hope you have a good birthday celebration. I have to admit that something about the name of Krispy Kreme has put me off even trying them, I think it's because it makes them seem so fake, and possibly even slightly obscene, not really crispy or creamy (and anyway doughnuts aren't supposed to be creamy are they?)

@Poppylicious In my opinion you can't beat the hot, freshly-made ring doughnuts you get at fairs and places like that - full of fat and sugar but such a treat!

@Fleura I can't go to the seaside without devouring at least one - but usually more - of those! I love watching them get made. It's like magic!

They can be a bit sickly. I had a Hershey's one and Husband had a Salted Caramel filled one. You definitely don't need more than one at one sitting. I do think I prefer an ordinary jam doughnut, but sometimes it's nice to push the boat out!

Your husband is a scorpio, happy birthday to him. (Is he an intense type like they say most Scorpio people do?)

Not really, no. He's just a bit of a nerd. Definitely not brooding and intense. Or smouldering. The serious long-term relationship before him was also a Scorpio and he wasn't really intense either. Hmmm ...

@YrNemo Charles should have been allowed to marry Camilla the first time round, but that's for a different post. :)

@Poppylicious Prince Charles is a Scorpio... and he couldn't stay faithful with his first wife (he couldn't be an intense person either or he was only so with his mistress?)!

Sounds like an interesting day; Autumn and winter weather, the zoo, tea party, hygiene and Krispy Kreme donuts. I'm exhausted trying to follow your imagination or was it real? Quite a variety for one day
