I have not done a DNA test. I know my lineage. I am Greek on my Dad's side and English/Scottish on my Mom's side. My Dad's parents immigrated from Greece & through historical records, my Mom's side came over from England & Scotland. I had an ancestor fight in the American Revolution and an ancestor fight in the Civil War.

I have not done one, our son has expressed some interest in looking further into my husband's mother's side of the family. I hope that someone here can offer you some first-handed experience.

@amadeo I believe that Izy has either done it herself or has a son-in-law that did it.

I've done it. I did mine through ancestryDNA {via ancestry.co.uk/.com} It was interesting {I'm a teeny bit from the middle East and a smidgeon Jewish in heritage} but it didn't tell me anything I didn't already know. The most interesting thing about it for me is that you can find family members. I know that both my mum and Father are definitely my parents as they've both done it too, and ancestry link you so you can see who your relations are and how far removed from them you may be.
