Weird Word Wednesday!

My word for tonight, "nyctophobia", is an interesting one. I don't suffer from nyctophobia really. I don't fear the night or the darkness itself, but I fear bumping into things and/or tripping over things in the dark! My night vision is extra bad because I have glaucoma, quite advanced in one eye. I gave up night driving awhile back due to this problem too. Even though I don't fear the night, I wouldn't go out walking by myself in the dark. But that's just using wisdom, I suppose? Okay, there are my random thoughts related to tonight's weird word. What are yours?

I do not fear the night. I fear what is in the night.

I live in the country. I like the dark so I unplugged the yard light. When my Mom lived with me she commented on how black it got out the minute the sun set. It is super dark for sure. Not like town where there lights keep true dark away.

Thanks for your comment @sallypup. I like seeing the stars from a location like that. No light pollution, as my husband calls it.

If ever I bump into something in the dark I feel like an idiot though really shouldn't. If they want to give it a fancy name go ahead but to me it will just be plain old monsters under the bed again.

Yes, I guess it's the uncertainty that makes it a bit scary. Thanks for your comment @Bluedoll. No you shouldn't feel like an idiot, although most of us do sometimes.

A new word to me :) . I don't fear the night, I am bit of a night owl. But I don't like too dark places, there must at least be a bit of light, even moonlight.

I like learning new words. To be honest, never heard of nyctophobia. Thank you for sharing this with me. I don't fear the night. But it would be awful to wake up and having to go to the bathroom and walk upon some big snake in the hallway or some other scary creeping thing. I have heard of snakes getting into people's house. I'm glad we never had that problem. I pray we never do.

Hi @coltbiz and thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed my post. Oh I agree that finding a horrid creature in the dark would be terrible. That's the stuff nightmares are made of!
