Thank Heavens for Distance...Or I May Kill Her

One of my friends is in residential mental health treatment in Chicago right now. And via phone, she is being such an unimaginably huge pain in the butt that I’m about to walk away from our friendship. I developed pneumonia right before she left and was just back at the doctor yesterday. It basically wrecked my lungs and has left me with a severe asthma flare that is going to take steroids and a nebulizer to maybe get under control. My friend is throwing temper tantrums to other friends about how anytime she’s not well, there is something wrong with me too. What she means is - 14 months ago after the birth of her daughter, I had a breakdown and put myself on the psych unit because I was sleep deprived to the point of hallucinations. She also means she’s mad she’s not getting all the attention even though she’s 5 hours away. Attention?! Neither of us are getting any! She’s hours away being treated at one of the best places in America - no one is worrying over her because we know she’s taken care of. Me? I’m just doing my little thing over here resting in bed. Friends all know I’m alive. This girl is sooooo lucky she’s away right now because I’m on steroids for my lungs and they make me a nasty person - I’d likely punch her face to face right now!

It sounds like she's being very childish to even think that way. I guess it's a very good thing she's away. She doesn't sound like much of a friend though honestly.

I have learned with some types of mental illness that people do not care about what is happening to anyone else, its all about them, she won`t change and you will never be able to please her, Move on for your own sanity.
