Frog Hollow, Louden, Western Australia

On Sunday we visited Frog Hollow at Louden in Western Australia. The shaded, wooded area is opposite a small shop which stands alone on the highway at the turn off to Gnomesville. In front of the chop is a colourful sign which has a series of frogs painted on it with cut-outs where the frogs’ heads would be. You can have your photo taken there is you wish with your head poking through one of the holes. In the bush there are narrow paths which lead you past a lot of frog ornaments. Some are stuck in hollow logs while others are in trees or on specially constructed shelves or swings, etc. While there aren’t a lot of frogs ‘in residence’ yet, the potential is there for an interesting display. Frog Hollow is only a short distance from Gnomesville and I’m sure the shop-owners are hoping both will continue to bring business their way.

@JudyEv Wow! I haven't seen any in my backyard lately. Whenever I am in my grandma's hometown, I enjoyed listening to them at night.

We have a green one in our shade-house. I always look for him when I go in there.

I hope it works for them. They are trying so hard to get themselves established.

It was a nice walk and good to try to see where the frogs were hiding.

The frogs here in the picture are certainly cute. I love visiting little places like this, known for nothing yet something.

It's another of those little places you stumble across without knowing it's there.

There are very nice frog ornaments, I surely prefer frogs to gnomes.

@JudyEv They do not freak me out, but I consider most of those gnome statues "ugly".

I have a frog ornament in my shade-house. Perhaps I should take him there so he won't be so lonely.

What a cute idea whoever started playing the little frog decorations! My sons room was decorated in frogs when he was a baby.

It is cute isn't it? Some are hidden in hollow logs or up in trees. I know the shop sells gnomes. Probably they sell frogs too.

Really like that and what a great idea too. Would love to visit it but cannot see that coming about just yet. I love those kind of things and hope the Shopkeepers get plenty more business too.

There seems a bit of prejudice against toads though.

I don't think there are any real ones there. I didn't see any but that doesn't mean anything.

Every time I read your posts, being someone who REALLY wants to visit Australia, I am starting to think how much fun it would be to retire and buy an RV and spend a couple years just traveling your country. Not sure how I would do that. But dammit, it would be a lot of fun. There seems like such a lot to see there and experience. I am not generally envious. But I am envious.

There are many people here, mostly older, who just keep on travelling. Some have sold their house and are on the road permanently; others just spend a few months a year doing it. Our young friends built their own caravan and took their three young kids on the road. They home-schooled them for several years. Now they're back at work and living in a standard house for the moment. You can always go back to work after an extended holiday if that's an option.

@porwest It depends on your personality I guess. I know when I was in France I just wanted to keep on travelling. everything was new and different and even in Australia, there is so much to see. New things to see and do all the time, interesting people to meet. But maybe I'd get tired of it all eventually too.

@JudyEv It does seem like a lot of fun. I'd probably want to settle back in somewhere eventually. I think after a couple years it might get a little bit old.

It is a cute idea and I hope itt accomplises what they hope it will. Small businesses are really struggling these days.

All this is making me think it would be so easy to start some sort of tourist attraction with some cut-out figures of whatever your chosen subject is to be, and a collection of ornaments in picturesque settings. What are you going to use for yours?
