a letter to america

November 23, 2017 1:20am CST
This is not a letter. The United States is today going to give thanks by stuffing its face silly with turkey and pumpkin pie. It may have an argument, before guzzling some beer and falling asleep in front of the telly. Not too different to Christmas, really. So, whilst America is offline perhaps we - the rest of the world - should give thanks too, for all the things we love about America. Won't it be lovely for them to awaken from their stuffed-belly induced afternoon nap and discover all the kind words? I'll start. Firstly, thank you America for my tellybox enjoyment. As a child I was able to emulate Wonder Woman, be part of the Red Hand Gang, discover that everybody loves a cheeky bad boy who drives around in a fast car yelling, yee, haa! or somesuch {although it did concern Little Me that you couldn't spell hazard correctly}, and go on adventures with the tiniest fluffy hobo who ever existed. Secondly, many thanks for Kurt Vonnegut. You bore him, raised him, sent him to war and inspired him. Likewise, Stephen King {except for the war bit}. And Judy Blume. She taught me about what it's like to be a ten year old in the States, albeit one who lived in the 1940/50s. America, you certainly played a part in my reading development. Finally, thank you for being the country we all turn to when we want to make a point that some things just don't work or purely end up creating societal schisms, like access to guns, dying or falling into huge debt because your insurance doesn't cover *that* medical issue, and Black Friday. We loves you, America, we do. Don't get a belly-ache!

Kurt Vonnegut is of German descent, Stephen King is is of Scots-Irish ancestry, as for Judy Blume her parents were Jewish. Enjoy the day America.

The great thing about America is that we are made up of people from just about every nationality of the world who all came to this country seeking a better life. And for that I am thankful!

Pity that we don't know in which country you live, i.e., from where you're thanking America.

@Poppylicious Well, if you mentioned it on your account page, I couldn't forget it. What is your special reason why you don't mention it?

I can't tell if you are mocking us, or speaking genuinely of us! LOL But either way, I love what you wrote!
