It has been an eventful and wonderful week. Our first thanksgiving celebration began with our Bible study group. We all brought finger foods and the adults did a Thanksgiving devotional led by my husband. I taught a lesson and did an art project with the preschoolers. As we were doing our lessons, we had a power outage in the area. It was pitch black. That cut the study short, but we did gather in one room with candles and cell phone lights and just laugh and fellowship. The little ones were amazed by all the candles. We were truly thankful when the lights came back on. Alabama Power worked pretty fast that night. My 15 year old was especially thankful. We laughed at her stressing about having to go all night with no internet and no youtube. Thursday, we drove 2 1/2 south to have Thanksgiving with my husband's family. There were those with whom we enjoy fellowship. I just wish I had time and money to visit more often. The food consisted of turkey, dressing, ham, squash casserole, chicken and dumplings, poppi seed chicken casserole, baby lima beans, green bean casserole, corn casserole, rolls, cinnamon cake, cookies, reeses cup brownies, pecan pie, pumpkin rolls, and pumpkin pie. Needless to say, there was plenty and we all had leftovers for the day after. Today, the celebrating continues. Today is a double celebration. It is thanksgiving with my family. My brother and his wife from Colorado are even here. Today we also have our Iron Bowl Party. If you are not familiar with SEC football, then you might not understand this tradition. In the South, though, football is religion and the #1 rilvary is Auburn vs. Alabama. They play the Iron Bowl every year. Things will be interesting because we are a divided family. Today we will come together and give thanks in a unified, respectful, and loving way. We will give God the glory for all He is doing and has done. We will hug and say "I love you". Then.... at 2: 30 pm, the gloves come off. The battle begins. Insults start flying, yelling at the tv commences, and criticizing each other's team is the conversation. In just a few hours, half of us will be cheering while the other half is crying. That's just how we do it in the South. Then we will go back into the kitchen and eat some more. Got love college football... btw- Even our little ones know about college football. They learn at a young age to choose sides. We are teaching them about loyalty. Oh and traitors who can't commit to one team for a lifetime are marked, for life, as a Benedict Arnold. Win or Lose- you don't turn on your team. As for me, I will be representing for Auburn University! WAR EAGLE!!!
