I have visited Mrutyunjaya Mahadev Temple in Banaras. This (Banaras) is the place known for many temples of Shiva. One of such temple is Mrutyunjaya temple. When I visited the temple and went inside I noticed some places where some Brahmins were sitting as a group and chanting something. I could not understand what it was. I approached one of the groups and inquired as to what they were doing? When I asked the Brahmin got angry and stared at me. I could understand that I was disturbing him. I approached another group which was free. When I inquired about the other groups and about the gathering as a group, one of the Brahmin informed me that they are all chanting MAHA MRUTYUNJAYA MANTRA and that they would chant it for 22 lakh times on behalf of the performer. He told me that chanting such mantra for a minimum of 22 lakh times will protect the performer and his entire family from all sorts of troubles for a period of one year. I heard about this rituals but never knew about the effect of it. It costs about 35 thousands of rupees. Really a huge amount to incur such an expenditure by an ordinary Indian. I gathered all the information and also obtained the phone number and address of the priest who takes the charge of such a rituals. This ritual will require about 35 Brahmins to complete it in a day. and about 11 Brahmins per day to complete the number in 7 days. After the number is reached the performer has to offer food to all Brahmins preceded by a Big fire ritual which is called HOMA. I really felt it great to know about such a rituals which is still being practiced in such big temples.
