Would you wear it?

One of my close friends is very fond of new clothes. Whenever he would buy a new pair of clothes, the next day he would wear the same and would come to office. When asked that he has worn a new set of clothes, he says that he has not purchased the new set of clothes for keeping it in cupboard or for any special occasion, he says that I have bought it to wear it immediately and I cannot wait for tomorrow. What is your take on it? When you buy new set of clothes, do you wear it immediately or wait for some special day/special occasion to wear it? Image courtesy - Google

It depends which kind of clothes I bought. If it's normal every day clothes, I can very well decide to wear it the day after I bought. As soon as I have washed the clothes. I never wear new clothing without washing, who knows who tried them before I bought.

You would wear normal day to day clothes, immediately after buying them. You are right that someone might have tried new set of clothes, therefore, it would be prudent to wash those clothes, before wearing it. Here shopkeepers keep separate set of clothes for trial and when we buy it, they give us packed set of clothes.

@LadyDuck If they keep limited set of clothes, then what you said is possible. Here a shopkeeper is supposed to keep/maintain good number of clothes, else people won't buy it. Here people want to see all colors and sizes, every time they go to buy clothes.

@dpk262006 Here is a small country, at most there are two dresses of the same size in stores and you cannot be sure if someone tried it or not.

I rarely buy new clothes but when I do it usually is for a specific event. I would wear it at that event and then wear it where ever I want. I don't work outside the house so there is no one to notice my new clothes except my family...

You wear your new set of clothes on special occasion and once you have worn it, you wear it on other occasions also.

It depends. If I bought those clothes for some special occasion/day, I'll only wear it during that event. Otherwise, I can use the day after I bought it.

@thelme55 You are right that new cloth should be washed before wearing as it will reduce the risk of chemicals used in co louring the cloth. Here a shopkeeper keeps separate set of clothes for trial and when we buy, he gives as fresh packed set of clothes.

@dpk262006 yes because of the chemicals that are used in coloring the clothes. I do that too as other people might have tried the clothes I bought in the shops.

It depends on what kind of clothes I would buy. If it's a kind of clothes to be worn at home, I would wear it immediately.

Fine enough. If the new set of clothes are to be worn at home, you would wear it immediately. What if the clothes are to be worn, while going outside?

@dpk262006 In that case I will only wear it for going outside. I won't wear it when I will be just staying at home.

It depends on what kind of clothes of course. Whenever there's a special occasion I would usually buy a new dress to be worn only on that particular event. But clothes for work, I don't have to wait for any particular day. I would just have it washed and then wear it a couple of days after.

It is understandable that clothes bought for special occasion are worn on special occasion. What makes you wash new clothes? You apparently wait for couple of days before you wear new clothes for work, you do not immediately wear it.

@toniganzon - May be you are right that clothes may not be absolutely clean when we buy it from a store. It is better to wash the set of new clothes before wearing it.

@dpk262006 It's definitely not clean coming from a store. I'm allergic to dust and mites and all sorts of things. I need a clean and fresh clothes all the time.

@dpk262006 If I've bought the clothes for a special occasion then I would wait for that time before I wore it but if it were perhaps a blouse or cardigan I'd wear it the first chance I got.

@dpk262006 dpk, In July and possibly August we have 3 weeks that we mourn our Temples that were destroyed. The 3 weeks begins with a fast. There are people buy clothes in the beginning. If I buy something I save it till the whole thing is over. The 3 weeks leads up to Tisha B'AV where we fast and do not do anything and after it is over we go back to normal lives and wear the nice new things we bought if it is summer things.

@Hannihar Oh! I see during particular 3 weeks you do not buy clothes and even you buy just before those special 3 weeks, you save it to wear after completion of 3 weeks. Thanks for elaborating.
