Shubhu (@shubhu3) wrote a post about childhood memories. You can catch up here: http://www.mylot.com/post/3133573/childhood-memories. An old photo came to mind when I read Shubhu’s discussion.
I grew up on a farm and loved every minutes of it. Here, I’ve been pushed over in the hay and had it thrown over me.
I still remember that the crop that year was particularly tall. This was considered good as it meant the teeth of the harvester comb could be set a bit higher and hopefully wouldn’t run into stumps and stones which might have been laying on the ground and which could damage the comb and put an end to harvesting until repairs were made.
In the off-season, my father and brother would often go out picking stumps and/or stones to try to make the paddocks smoother for following years. Some years later, shorter crops were preferred as they were less likely to be blown over by strong winds.

I used to love playing in the hay when I was a child! And the smell of fresh cut hay still brings back many wonderful memories of my childhood!

@JudyEv It sure does! And luckily, I am not allergic to hay! I feel sorry for all those people that have allergies, because they can't ever enjoy rolling around and playing in the hay!

@moffittjc They had a novelty event in Ireland and part of it was a 'roll in the hay'. Each couple were tied together by the wrists with a length of rope then had to negotiate several farm-type obstacles - climbing a gate, rolling a bale of hay, pushing the girl in a wheel barrow and finally rolling in the hay. It was pretty funny to watch.

I use to visit my Aunt and Uncle on the family farm every summer and jumping in the hay, laying in the hay and hiding in the hay were all favored pastimes.

@JudyEv We jumped in the hay mostly in the barn but we went out in the wagon when they were haying.

That's got to have been quite an experience. I've really never been near a farm.
