I was glad I was there.

I have a number of slow cookers/crock pots. This morning in went to plug one in. It shot out a spark where the cord joins the appliance. I am glad I was there to take care of it. It is now in the trash. No need for a fire hazard here.

We should be very careful with faulty electrical appliances.

Once I knew it was faulty I put it in the trash.

I was discussing with another myLotter a few days ago just saying that I would never leave a crock pot unattended, exactly for this reason. If nobody is at home a spark can start a fire.

I still use my crock pots. I could miss a problem even if at home. I am glad this happened when I plugged it in so I would know about it. I will pay more attention to the cords.

Yeah, me too. It was my oldest one, and smaller than the others. I will check my appliance cords more often.

That was perhaps a close call. I guess plenty of fires start this way.

I once knew of a turkey thawing starting a fire by rolling over and pushing a lever on a toaster. Many things in our kitchens can start fires.

I love slow cookers but I agree ! No need to risk fire. Good thing you got more

Yes, this one was quite old and well used. Time to use the newer ones.

My large crockpot is kind-of worrying me. Even it has only been on for an hour, the outside of it gets very hot. I guess I need to invest in a new one.

They are pretty inexpensive and it is better to be safe than sorry or have regrets.

@GardenGerty Yesterday, I noticed my laptop power cord had a slit in it. The roommate used electrical tape on it. I cannot get to a store until next week and cannot live without my laptop. uuugh

Yikes glad you didn't get shocked or worse a fire! I wouldn't want to leave my house with mine plugged in as it is very old. It was my grandmothers but was new and never used. By the colors and pattern I think it is from the 80s.

I think this one was from the eighties, and has been used a lot.

Good grief. I'm glad you were there, too. That's scary stuff! I have one little crock pot, but I am always here to keep an eye on the kitchen. When I'm not, my mother is.

If this had not happened it probably would have run okay all day, but the cord was bent at the entrance to the heating element in the pot. I will not run them overnight.
