Do you know what it costs for a pretty front door?

We are not buying this door, but found the price shocking. The photo does not seem to be uploading, but the price we saw was close to $5,000 to include the door plus the side lights, etc. A door on the house we are upgrading is a solid wood door that is at least vintage. The door will not be changed...just looking. Doors sold in some shops contain little wood if any these days. Local thrift stores often have solid wood doors if you need one!

Finding one at a thrift store seems like the better option.

@PatZAnthony I had an issue yesterday, write a discussion that wouldn't submit. This has happened about five times, for me! All that typing, then it won't submit:(

That's a lotta money. They can't cut down as many trees as they used to, with the bee population in jeopardy they fear forests might not be able to procreate.

A front door can be very expensive, it depends what you are asking for. A wooden door, armored inside, can cost the same price here.

@PatZAnthony Gold or rubies - the owner would need guards outside the home.

When we moved I wanted a pretty door, we got one that was indeed pretty but I kick myself now over and over. It has a lot of glass to it, so when people come they automatically peek through the door window to see if/when I will answer. This unnerves me, since I am a very private person. As the kids run in and out they slam the door, every time I wonder, is this the time it will all come crashing on the floor?? The reason I wanted the glass was to help warm the house in the winter, but now I would just take an ugly one I do not have to worry about.

@PatZAnthony At the home improvement store I work at, we can't keep those doors in stock...they are selling as fast as we can stock them! I guess that must mean the economy is doing pretty well right now. Maybe everyone's getting rich off of Bitcoin! lol

We bought a fancy vinyl door, for $250. Is it of high quality? No, it's not. I'd much rather have a nice wood door, as you've mentioned in your discussion. Genuine wood is what I prefer!:)

@PatZAnthony Doors can get very expensive, but the old ones are a higher quality! We're finding this out remodeling a home, that was built in 1958.

I so want to change my front door here. It is a fancy door with some pretty leadlight sections. One leadlight section unfortunately was not in its pristine condition as when it was first put there. The fixing price seems to be ridiculously high plus very inconvenient. Buying a new one cost me about $1000 or around that. The tradesmen who come and have a look, tell me to not thinking of replacing it, they all believe that the door is still OK.

The prices are obscene to me @YrNemo yet people do pay these rates. When we think how this is more than our first new car and much more than my grandmothers entire house-we just say no!

They have gone insane with prices. I am not certain how people can afford to renovate or build any more. Hopefully most things can just be restored.

My daughter needs a new front door on the old house in Portland she bought. She is so security conscious, she may get a metal door.
