Just Got It

The power went out yesterday around 11 am and we did not get it back till Just now, 2:45 pm, They power company continued to call me to tell me the power is on but it was not. I kept calling and reporting. The power truck came by and left, Tony got in his truck and took off after him and they had stopped at the next power station to flip the breaker, and check the fuses. They seen the problem, a wire down but not all the way so they had to call the linemen. He said he did not know when they would be out. We decided to fire up the fire place that has never been checked out, Tony did a quick check and said it looked ok and he built the fire. Just as the house was getting warm, the power came back on. I remembered sleeping with no heat when I was growing up but I want heat now, I am to old to be cold. How did everyone else deal with the snow and cold?

@amadeo And I thought I was a tough Canadian, but being older sure has made a "whinner" out of me.

I do but like I said it was never checked out so I was scared to just fire it up. Not anymore, I will clean up the woods , no more fallen trees will just lay around.

So happy that you finally got your power back on. I am too cold too all the time for sleeping in a cold house.

I'm dealing fine with the cold and snow but I don't think I'd do very well without heat. Since we don't have a fireplace or wood stove we'd be freezing. Glad you got your power back and can enjoy being warm

I am glad it got fired up, now I know it works, I looked at propane heaters on homedepot. com and I can get a small one for under $100, I think I will order this one.

We are out of our usual area, but still it is cold where we are working in Florida. It will be 28° in Florida at midnight tonight. They had snow North Carolina and we really don't miss seeing it.

Cold, windy and snowy yesterday. Today was not quite as cold...much less wind and some sunshine. We didn't lose our power. We were toasty warm.

I would hate to be cold too. I'm glad your power is back on. I guess at least now you know you can light the fire if need be.

I have never had to deal with snow. As to cold, it rarely gets that cold and there's the heater.

I'm glad you didn't have to wait long for it to come back on again. We have a fireplace in our apartment, but I don't know if it's more ornamental or would really heat the place up or not. So far we've only burned the special packaged logs in it.

@andriaperry That's actually a good idea. When I was first married, we lived in an apartment with a fireplace. Later, they told us not to use it for warmth, because apparently someone put as many logs as possible inside and melted the outside metal of the fireplace and almost burned down their apartment. That fireplace was only ornamental, usable but not for heat.

Well I'm glad it eventually came back on, such a pain. My friend is in the south and has been without power for 24 hours. We haven't gotten snow yet although i woke up to a dusting of it.

That is definitely a long time to wait for power. I'm glad that you finally got it back. Thankfully, things weren't too bad here.

It has been snowing lightly all day. Nothing is sticking on the roads so we are fine. My little car slipped a bit coming home this afternoon but I was fine. If it has to snow, this is how I want it--looks pretty but doesn't inconvenience me. We never lose power for snow. If we are going to lose power, it will be for a thunderstorm, nor'easter, or hurricane.
