Is the 18% gender pay gap simply about women wanting to have babies, not bosses?

I do not believe women are paid less at work in the same job as men because they are female. I simply don’t think that pay prejudice exists. Apparently there is an 18% difference in men and women in the same job but for me that’s because career women choose to have a family. If you have kids and take time out of your career then what do you expect? You can’t return on the same money as the men who have been working and progressing in that period? It’s not fair. Business is commercial and you are paid for what you are worth. If a woman has higher productivity at work than a man doing the same job then the guy will have to match her or should be fired. I don’t understand why feminist think a woman that’s making a company good money would not e paid her worth> I wonder if there is research were female bosses are paying men more than women for the same job? Would the angry feminist tell us about that research? It’s interesting to note that ‘out’ single gay men and gay women earn more than married men in the same jobs and single women and men under the age of 30 also earn about the same money for the same jobs as each other. Its only when children come along do women’s careers and pay stall. The question, then, is do some women chose to have a family so to escape the pressures of a career and so allowing their male or female partners to forge ahead in the workplace? Is the 18% simply a family premium? Those feminist, of course, are hot happy with the pay gap and attack male bosses and companies as sexist. They won’t accept women should be paid less for starting a family. If man were the ones who had babies they would be getting 18% less. Did you know most women who have children often return to work in part-time roles on their terms so to stay close to, and look after, their kids? 70% of female graduates are not in careers by the time of their 35th birthday, choosing to have a family instead. I’m not saying bringing kids up is easier than having a career and feel for women who want to do both but with the price of childcare so high and young children needing their moms at a young age why not just be a mum and stop being political about the pay gap? Women earn less because they want to be moms, not bosses.

I don’t want to be a mom. Your attitude is incredibly sexist.

@thedevilinme Obviously not. Again, I don't want to be a mom. You said "women earn less because they want to be moms, not bosses." You are wrong.

@NJChicaa Women who chose to have kids tend to be paid less. Women who dont have kids tend to get paid the same.

The whole gender thing is getting out of hand. Pay everyone the same amount of money.

They should, and they do in most female demographics.

There may have been a time when women were paid less for the same job, but I don't think it's the case now. It's true that women are more likely to self-select into lower paying jobs (preschool teacher, etc.), but that's a different issue. I sometimes chuckle about some of the things men do that go unrecognized. At one job I held for many years, we could donate sick time to colleagues. I rarely get sick, and am devoted to my work, so I donated some of my sick time to colleagues each time it maxed out--usually someone who was pregnant and needed extra time to be with her baby.

@thedevilinme so just because I come equipped with a uterus I should be paid less. That's a load of crap. I did the same job as the males. I did not take time off. (My children were in school) I did not smoke, so I didn't take a smoke break every hour....so I did more. I finally made a lot of noise and eventually received the same pay and benefits as the men. This should not have been necessary. I am not a feminist...but seriously...same work...same pay.

@Morleyhunt No, women who do work and don't have kids tend to earn the same as men.

Someone has to have the children - it isn't a matter of choice. Can a man get pregnant and carry a child for nine months?
