a kitten trespassed in our garden yesterday

I found a little kitty because she was always meowing, i thought it was outside but when i investigated it, she was inside the garden.
Good thing my dog was asleep. The kitty was moving towards me because i had a flashlight, but when she smelled me she walked off again...(coz i'm not her momma? 
)
I was trying to grab her and get her outside the gate, but then my dog was suddenly there are they had a stand off... my dog was barking like crazy and the kitten's hairs were all standing up and claws ready to scratch.
Good thing my dog was a bit of a scaredy cat 
and I was able to tie my dog while my dad got the kitten outside 
)

our fence is low so cats sometimes climb in. our dog just chases and barks at them, but backs off when they fight back.
