80s new wave mania: "Kiss Me" Stephen "Tin Tin" Duffy (1985)

“Kiss me with your mouth Your love is better than wine” “KIss Me” cannot even be called a one hit wonder in the US as it failed to crack Billboard Hot 100. However, the song was a hit in the UK peaking at #4. In the US, “KIss Me” received play on alternative radio and was popular in dance clubs. Here is something I did not know about Stephen Duffy. He co-founded Duran Duran with friends John Taylor and Nick Rhodes. Duffy was original vocalist while playing bass and drums. What happened? For some reason, he exited the band in 1979 and we all know what happened to Duran Duran with replacement Simon LeBon. In 1982, he founded the short lived Tin Tin whose original recording of “Kiss Me” failed at UK #155. Duffy went solo (the record label stick the nickname Tin Tin on him) and the album “The Ups and Downs” featured a new version of “Kiss Me” which proved successful. In the decades since “Kiss Me,” Duffy has alternated between solo work and forming new bands and never replicated the notoriety of “Kiss Me.”

This one was a little slow, but how cool that he founded Duran Duran.
