One of the greatest menace in India occupying the Government lands by illegal means by Goons in the locality. The Goons need not be persons of the same locality but maybe even from different states. They first start with a hut having a thatched roof. Slowly allows other colleagues to come in and settle there. Another person starts another one and the process goes on. Within a gap of a year or two, the whole area will be full of huts. They do not have any roads and current. Still, they manage things. They pilferage the electricity and have dazzling light. The get free electricity. The water they get is from public taps and some even manage the water tanks during the summer season. The only thing they do not have is sanitation. They eat and throw the remains on the road or right in front of their own houses showing their right under the constitution The politicians and the Governments close their eyes and will be busy answering the questions in Assemblies with regard to the regularisation of their sites and on allowing the sites to these so-called 'poor and downtrodden'. They are dubbed as 'SLUM DWELLERS' This is found mostly in big cities like Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad and all cosmopolitan cities and Mega Cities. Do you have such some dwellers in your country?

We call them squatters and like in your country, they are tolerated by the politicians especially during elections where vote buying is prevalent in those slum areas. However we must also look at the situation on the perspective of these slum dwellers. Most are from the province who come into the city to look for job opportunity. Gov't housing has never been adequate (more like a joke) and these people are left to tend to their own needs.
