Pinch hitting for my original entry for today's fictional person song title song is this next tune. That's right, this wasn't the original song I had slated in the #2 slot. I'll do a separate entry about it next, because it's just that good a song (despite what the band said about it). However, that doesn't take anything away from this great song. Here it is. #2: Amos Moses - Jerry Reed As I promised, no surprise here. I've used this song before (in the "more cowbell" countdown). Jerry Reed had a multifaceted career that should have put him in the Hall of Fame long before his death from emphysema in 2007. As it is, he was just inducted this year, three years after his widow (country singer Priscilla Mitchell) died. Better late than never, I guess, but sheesh. Reed's career included being a songwriter ("Misery Loves Company," Porter Wagoner's final #1 hit, was written by Reed), singer, actor (Smoky and the Bandit), and oh-my-oh-my-what-a-great guitarist. Reed's Grammy awards included a duet album he did with Chet Atkins, Me and Chet. And Jerry Reed is part of my first meeting with Chet Aktins. I was doing my college internship at the Country Music Foundation, and Mr. Guitar was there one day. There were several "generational" photos on the walls (such as Ricky Skaggs and Bill Monroe), and one of them featured Merle Travis and Jerry Reed. Terrified me (this is CHET ATKINS, people!!!) was standing there, nervously waiting for the man Chet had come to see to show up and relieve me of Chet's presence. (I didn't need to be so scared: Atkins was a sweetheart.) Pointing to the picture of Travis, who was Atkins' biggest influence as a guitarist, and Reed, a longtime friend, Chet said, "That's a good picture." What was I gonna say? Anyway, here again, for your listening and dancing pleasure, is the story of a Cajun who engages in illegal alligator hunting. Enjoy. Amos Moses Written by Jerry Reed Hubbard Recorded by Jerry Reed From Georgia Sunshine, 1970 Here comes Amos!

When you're hot your hot. Besides the movies and the hits, I remember him best from the Glen Campbell Show.
