No, this is not about the James Bond movie - read on and you will see. A couple of years ago a resident of an upscale neighborhood in the city was at home one evening when he heard his daughter's voice calling for help. He looked through the window and saw her struggling with a man. He immediately rushed for his licensed firearm and fired a shot at his daughter's attacker. Sadly , that shot missed the intended target and hit his daughter instead - she died. Now, I read in the news recently that a popular entertainer is suggesting that every adult who is able, be allowed a license to carry a firearm. He is of the opinion that if criminals are aware that householders are armed - they would think twice before breaking in people's homes - robbing and killing. I really, can't see that happening - everyone walking around armed . Imagine the mayhem if persons decide to pull a gun at the least provocation? There could also be many more incidents like what happened with the father who was trying to protect his daughter. Of course, citizens do need to protect themselves. I have heard blood-curdling reports of what occurs during some home invasions - and all I can say then is - if only those victims had some means of protecting themselves. So, what do you say? in societies where crime is high - do you think every adult should be allowed to carry a licensed firearm - if they so desire?

I think this is a ridiculous idea and would lead to even more murders.

There are more killings in the USA (in percent) where it is easy to get a weapon than in countries where it is next to impossible.

In countries where it is harder to get them, the criminal elements have the monopoly.

@Kandae11 What? In Germany, for example, it's hard to get a weapon but I'm surprised to learn from you that in this country the criminal elements have the monopoly.

Carrying an arm or pistol is like double edged sword and it could prove dangerous for everyone.

@Kandae11 Yes, men is basically an animal and if he has weapons in his hand, it does not take much time to trigger his animal instincts.

This is the worst idea I ever heard. There would be more and more accidents, more innocent people killed by mistake.

@Kandae11 It would become the old Far West, no laws and people would feel free to kill all those they do not like pretending that they were menaced.

@Kandae11 Exactly, the world is already not safe enough not to worsen things.

@LadyDuck Exactly, and the survivors would be those who are quickest on the draw.

Unfortunately, people do get away with murder. One of the reasons why we should find ways of protecting ourselves.

Where I live we need to have some way to protect ourselves and our families against our enemies. It was very sad what happened to the daughter.. so, what about the father?

I don't think so instead there should be more police men to control such crimes.

I do believe that qualified people should be able to protect themselves and their families with fire arms. Criminals have no problem getting them.

I don't think 'everybody' should have one @Kandae11 . That guy apparently didn't remember his training in order to receive a license. He should have come out the door and said, "Get away from her or I will blow your head off!" I am quite sure the guy would have made a run for it and that Father wouldn't have made the biggest mistake of his life.
