The Tentacles of Money Power

The world is controlled by money power. Its tentacles spread far and wide, everywhere. We have politicians of all hues but the underlying thread that binds them to one another is money, as simple as that. Thankfully, the common folks draw a line but not those who have too much of wealth! Once we come to know how wealth makes the world dance to its tune, one gets addicted to it, want more of it. The rich may control others but are in turn slaves to wealth! I recall a remark by Hillary Clinton when she was Secretary of State when asked “Why can't we get tough on China?” Clinton's reply: “How do you get tough on your banker?" Now China has great influence due to its foreign reserves of over $3 trillion. That attracts poor countries to them like bees to honey. That is the crux of the matter that decides our fate. We are enslaved by money power. Wealth dictates decisions and wealthy are lauded as needed, even as salt of the earth! The irony is we are exhorted by faith that “the love of money is the root of all evil” but then our actions belie such teachings. Can we ever free ourselves from this mad race or we just go with the flow feeling helpless to reverse the path we have taken? Image: Money Power

We need money in order to buy goods and services, but unfortunately, some tend to make it their God.

Yes. It's very true. The "... love of money is the root of all evil..." not money itself but the love of it.

It is tough to kick the habit and is more addictive as you go up the ladder of wealth. It soon dictates our outlook - siva

It seems that even when people with money take away more from the poor and pocket more for themselves, they are still liked and respected by the have- not's. I don't understand it.

They are lionized by the media. Who is number one in wealth ranking makes a great story. I admire those like Gates and Buffett who are into charity even when alive as opposed to some in Asia who hold on to wealth and then leave them to their own children. This passed on wealth proves a burden to most. The main issue is once you move to higher rungs the lifestyle changes. The bankers are after the Ultra High Net Worth Individuals swooning over them even. The common folks are contented! siva

A new form of money to trap us in its cage: Bitcoin
Love never works on its own unless you are unattached to all other things. When you see (or think that) love is not working for you, you become attached to that one thing that you think will bring you all others. This is money. Real love, however, cannot be bought, because it is at one level, priceless, but on the other level, it's free. The free is undervalued; the priceless side seems unobtainable; and so money is chased instead, because what glitters is not love, but remains attractive to one not strong enough to only follow love. How do you gain the strength to only follow love? Trust in the provision of life to life. God has not created life alone. All life supports all other life, and when we realise this, we too will grow like the lilies in the fields grow, without any unnecessary worries. Note: The reference to lilies above is referring to this well-known quote from the Christian bible. This long quote is from Saint Matthew's gospel, chapter 6, verses 25 to 34. It is well worth rereading in its entirety. The Cure for Anxiety “For this reason, I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? “Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they? “And who of you by being worried can add a single hour to his life? “And why are you worried about clothing? Observe how the lilies of the field grow; they do not toil nor do they spin, yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these. “But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? You of little faith! “Do not worry then, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear for clothing?’ “For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you." “So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Picture credit: Photo used here taken from the free media site: Pixabay.com It depicts a new form of money to trap us in its cage: Bitcoin

@Shiva49 Ha, Ha, that's a good saying, and it explains a lot about the way that our world works. Truth stands at the top of the pinnacle, unassailable by all else. It will always prevail in the end, I agree with that. How could it ever be otherwise? The world could not work, if truth could be ultimately overcome by anything else.

@innertalks We may cover truth with dirt but it will prevail and shine like lotus among filth all around it. Stick by truth and love then we have made it as nothing fazes us then. Creation is love, truth and nurture and not hatred, falsehood and destruction. The shoots of recovery happen even before destruction runs its course - siva

Meaningfully responded Steve, thanks. When we overlook the obvious we go after those that glitter only to be deceived. Living a life of love and empathy gives ultimate fulfillment but may not sell in a material and hypocritical world. We should not waver from what we know is the truth and truth will prevail in the end. No one can prosper living in an island all by himself. Life assumes meaning only when we share and let those we accumulate multiply when we share, not those that gives a fleeting sense of ownership and importance. Why follow like a sheep for those that are touted by dream merchants who have already made hay. I recall the saying "if you cannot convince, confuse" and that I think is behind Bitcoin - siva

@saritflor The main issue is the rich getting richer at the cost of the poor and that does not bode well for an inclusive society - siva
