Feels Like Summer in Southern California

While the Northeastern United States, where two of our daughters and their families live, is buried in snow and experiencing an Arctic cold front, we are experiencing summer-like temperatures here in Southern California.
Today, the high temperature in Irvine was over 80 degrees.
I met some friends at Starbucks this afternoon and we enjoyed sipping our beverages outdoors on the patio.
In Pasadena, they are preparing for the Rose Parade. They are putting the colorful rice and seeds on the floats. The flowers will be applied on Sunday, as close to the start of the parade as possible. It is going to be spectacular!
If you are experiencing the cold weather in the U.S., you are the exception. It is actually one of the few places in the world where the high temperatures this week are not ABOVE normal. Most of the world is seeing unusually warm temperatures.
Despite the cold wave in the Northeastern US, global warming still seems to be in effect.

@JudyEv - Years ago, when I was much younger, I camped out on Colorado Avenue in Pasadena on New Year's Eve, with thousands of other people, so we could have front row seats for the Rose Parade. It was very spectacular. I watch it on TV, now, but I still remember what it was like to be there. I think I'm too old to camp out for it now! LOL

@JudyEv - Yes, it was a great memory. I did it before I knew my husband, and I think he wishes he had done it when he was young, too. Occasionally, I have thought about reserving a hotel room in the area for New Years Eve, but the room rates on those nights are outrageous ... so I think I will just stick with my memories!

@BelleStarr - Yes, it is a very dangerous situation. Sadly, almost anything can start a wildfire when it gets very dry. Fortunately, I just heard that we have a small change of rain next week. We really do need it!

It is -18c here and it is really cold. You are lucky to have the warm weather and get to enjoy it. I can't wait for summer to get here again.

@sallypup - I hope his company is reasonable. It is dangerous to expect employees to drive on roads which are exposed to freezing rain.

@nanette64 - Wow! We lived in Dallas for 25 years and those kind of temperatures were very rare. It happened once or twice, but not often. I wish we could send you our warm temperatures. Sooner or later, I am sure they will move east! Stay warm until then.

We had no really cold temps, down in the 20s several mornings though and foggy overcast holding it in the 30s for a high.
