A Very Special Christmas Gift

Alex is our second oldest grandson, he is 24. He is in a tool and dye apprenticeship. He has made some lovely metal things in the past. For Christmas, he made us a set of aluminum dominoes. They are substantial in weight and just beautifully done. I was blown away, they are some of the most beautiful dominoes I have ever seen.
We just love them, we are so impressed with not only the quality but also with the fact that he knew us well enough to know that we would love and cherish them. We are just so proud of how far he has come. As a teen, he suffered from bipolar disease and it was touch and go for a few years. He has grown into a wonderfully kind and thoughtful young man.

Next year he says he is going to make us the second half so we have 12 over 12s. I will cherish them forever. One of our sons made us a cribbage board when he was in high school and we cherished that until we lost it in the fire.

@JudyEv We lost almost everything in that fire but we still have each other and that was our consolation.

@BelleStarr Some gifts really come from the heart don't they? They are very special. What a shame you lost the cribbage board.

They are just the size of normal dominos, maybe a hair thicker.

I am not sure, my friend is sick and may not be well enough to play. I want to show them to her but we usually use the 12 over 12s, these will be good for Al and I to play each other in Florida. I am so proud, we were not sure he was going to survive those years when his illness all but paralyzed him.

@BelleStarr Sorry about your friend. I hope she feels better by New Year's Eve.
You should be so proud. Bipolar is a very debilitating disease, and must have been traumatic for you all. Is he controlling it with meds?

It was touch and go for a while but now he seems to be able to manage his emotions. His half sister also has it as does his father. How is your son managing?

i like dominoes. i remember teaching my nieces. it's easy to play and easy to pack (the small inexpensive plastic ones with a case).
it's beautifully made, one you would proudly show everyone, and thank you for sharing his remarkable story (which i read in the comments).
