Happy New Year 2018 MyLot friends. I hope this is a happy and successful year for you and that you've had a nice New Year's Day. I spent the day with my parents at my place. We had a lovely Chinese meal at a restaurant and then finger foods, played games and watched a comedy movie. As some of you may already know... my dad is somewhat challenging at times. (And I have a big talent for understatements) However yesterday he was pleasant as he was for, well, most of the day today. There were a few tense moments, he managed to make my mom cry so I had to settle everyone down (I'm not a talk therapist, I just play one in everyday life), and because he has been somewhat absent minded lately - he managed to drain their can's battery by leaving the lights on. So right when I thought they had left they rang to be let in again and we had a little adventure , had to call roadside assistance but got them back on the road quickly and they got home safely. I do love them dearly but it is a unique set of challenges that we go through. Yesterday evening - New Year's eve was fun. Went to my parents and had a lovely supper (lasagna) and snacks and games, then I went out with the locals singles group to a bar, the had a band (nice) and dropped balloons filled with money at midnight (I got $22). And as I've been thinking about New Years and New Goals - I thought I would add these additional thoughts on my "resolutions" which I have re-titled goals(which seems to make them more do-able). *Try new things Be it food, recipes, classes, - I want to try more new things. At the top of the list - Hip Hop dance classes and joining a book club. *Positivity @kobesbuddy mentioned being more positive. I find it very hard to talk positive to myself. If someone talked to me like I talked to myself in my own mind I wouldn't like that person much. So why do I do it to myself? Also I notice I put a lot of weight into what other people think of me. I want to be less like that. *Food, TV, Movies, Dance and Music @TheHorse had a good point . I love food and I won't be removing anything that I love. I also enjoy tv, movies, dance and music. I will continue those things, I think it will be easy. *Bass guitar, mandolin needle arts and photography I will try and make time for old hobbies as well *Financial, eat healthier foods (without cutting out anything I love), read/listen to books, try new recipes - I plan to continue with all of these from 2017 So that's the long list. What did you do today, mylot, anything special? Any plans for 2018? Photo: Pixabay

That's seems a pretty long list but what a great lot of things you've chosen. I intend to make some goals too and I'm going to make a list of mine - 'cause that's what I do! Make lists! Making lists is nearly as much fun as actually doing the stuff.

Hi Faye (as I said in your "Christmas party, dice game behavior, confusion and thankfulness" discussion, you can call me Cathy . I don't have any goals or resolutions this Year, I just want to live life a day at a time the best I can. Happy 2018 to You!

I have seen your name shortened to a number of different forms. It's also a useful name to use in anagram form. Best 2 word one I can make is 'Nice Heart'

Ah force of habit, Cathy :-) -- I have often admired people with longer names who can shorten them to a whole new sounding name. :-) I love that. I hope 2018 is full of blessings for you

You have a strong list of resolutions, provided you go for it with dedication and accomplish some of it. All the best. I have not drafted any such list.

@FayeHazel Nothing wrong in making a list and trying to improve in some areas. I agree with you that something is better than nothing.

I have quite a few areas I want to improve :-) You're right - one needn't accomplish all, but some... some counts, even progress counts...

As for eating healthier foods, I'm really doing my best. But I guess my resolution would probably be sleeping a bit more earlier.

Yay for eating healthier. I have decided that I will keep eating all the unhealthy stuff that I love, but I will try to include a salad, a vegetable and a fruit.... then I will likely eat less junk. I hope you are able to get some better sleep

It was a quiet day for me which I like. No special goals for 2018 except to get along and be alive.

I didn't make any resolutions last year, so to make up for it, I'm going to make twice as many this year.

@Courtlynn It's true, it's hard to ignore what haters say, but chances are they are just feeling insecure themselves. Still no excuse. Anyway, here's to a positive 2018 :-)

@FayeHazel Yes, and believe it or not, those positive thoughts will bring about surprisingly higher attainment, in anything we choose to accomplish!

@kobesbuddy So many self help books I have read (er... listened to) have suggested as much - but it seems so hard to believe
