Reading between the Lines

What you see is what you get and what you hear is who I am. However, it takes all types to make a world. We are different and interact according to who we really are. Understanding people is fascinating provided, of course, if you want to know them. Some are forthright while others guarded and the few devious that make others circumspect. We prick up our ears and stay alert when someone approaches us out of the blue. Some are smooth talkers and we have to separate the wheat from the chaff. We have to read between the lines to understand what they really mean and the unsaid especially when it comes to investments that promise sky high returns. We are too familiar with those that we ignore under the maxim “if it looks too good to be true, it usually is”. We see through those that are supposed to lead us to a fantasy world and early retirement! We end up adding to their fortune with our hard earned money! Caveat Emptor - Buyer beware - applies to life all the time. When we let down our guard we cannot blame others for our misfortune. I have seen them all and paid the tuition fees for learning the lessons. How about you? Image: Life lessons from Pixabay

Yes, sometimes love and kindness become a liability. I am retired now with no avenue to make up for losses. I can only take care of what I have - siva

We've made a few blunders in life, but certainly learned our lesson. Thank goodness most people are kind and good.

Yes, we have lived to tell the tale but some have paid a heavy price for being too trusting - siva

I agree , no matter what , at times we have no control over certain matters. Being too trusting is considered a weakness by some . All the more reason for us to trust based on our instinct

Most are trusting and that is how few have their heyday. I want to project trust but when I know I am being taken advantage of I put my foot down. Just the other day my friend told me how his elderly mother lost money as someone picked her handbag containing ATM card and also a diary with PIN number of it! siva

I think I read body language more than I listen to what people actually say.

Yes, the unsaid carries more weight at times. A leader of a country said - we will never sell our country's interests; the meaning, they have done just that! siva

Very rare when someone offers you something for nothing. Whether its monetary or a favor society teaches us to be suspicious of anything to good to be true. But why do some not learn? Something to ponder

I recall what one said about how he lost half a million dollars to Bernard Madoff. When he asked Madoff about the investment he was brushed off with " I have no time to answer your queries. Don't you see how many are waiting to invest in me?" There is always a sheep mentality and some people are able to cash in on them. Earning the hard way takes time but losing it can be overnight. We are led to believe "this time it is different" but history repeats - siva

@Shiva49 As you so accurately warn we can learn quite a bit from history And yes, people tend to follow others rather than use independent thought...
