Do you believe in Luck?

Whether we believe or not luck plays a part in our lives. It starts with who we are born to and where.
Luck clearly plays a part who we meet as some can change our outlook and fortunes especially when we are young. To get the initial break in our career one needs luck, then who we work with. And also in getting a life partner; only few are really blessed.
I believe our attitude helps a lot to decide where we are positioned in life but that can only go so far. We are always observed but rarely are we rewarded more than others who are run of the mill. I go by a general take that my attitude and work ethics are by themselves the internal reward though I have nothing much to complain about what I got from others too.
Form the outside we may think some are plain lucky but I am more into believing they also played their roles to get to where they are. Nothing is really given on a plate; even if some get a bigger share it can easily be frittered away.
In conclusion, my take is luck is secondary to our character, attitude, and work ethics. The lucky breaks I have had have been supplemented by my own effort to sustain them.
How about the role that luck has played in your life?

I believe in luck because I have been a lucky person. There are many good things that have happened in my life not because I deserved them, but because I was lucky.

@fei1125 Yes, we deserve to be lucky too. If we don't deserve it the lucky breaks can be our undoing.
We take things for granted and soon reality will stare at us. To ride on the luck is only for the few. others are soon thrown out, discarded - siva

On the one hand, if luck exists it would question God's very existence, as luck would be more powerful than God, that is, if God could also suffer from bad luck, but then if luck doesn't affect God, why and how does it affect us?
Is it real, or only illusion?
Love is never lucky, and yet it has all the luck.
This is because luck is a label applied to those who think that something unexpected and fortunate has happened to them, when the truth is that when you live from only love, all is fortuitous for you then.
All is as it should be, and we could call this luck, good fortune, or just know it as a quality of love, loving.

@Shiva49 Yes, some have love thrust upon them too. In fact, we all have access to this love.
Love never limits itself in anyone: it is they who limit it within themselves.
This is the same with luck. It falls where it falls, and any luck that comes your way, is a seasoning of itself reaching you from God. God spreads his love across all of creation. Luck is when you are in its vicinity at the same time as you are conscious enough to take it on board, and so allow it be a part of yourself.
Luck to be luck, must be acknowledged by love.

@innertalks Luck is by grace of god and we cannot take credit for it.
However, we have to work on it to make it blossom and spread its wings in us.
I quote American author Aberjhani on love:
“Shine your soul with the same
egoless humility as the rainbow
and no matter where you go
in this world or the next,
love will find you, attend you, and bless you.” - siva

Sometimes lucky breaks are attributed to destiny like we are destined to meet someone who leaves a profound impact on us.
The Bard said "Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them." We can as well change greatness with luck - some are born lucky, some work to invite luck, and some have luck thrust upon them
I agree for some luck need not play a part as their work attitude ensures success Then again as per an earlier comment how some get really lucky to win lotteries while for others the reality stares immediately after every draw date, back to square one?
Yes, a life dictated by love gives the greatest reward that luck cannot even hold a candle to - siva

Sure! If I didn't have bad luck I would have none at all I am in agreement with your last statement. I have always heard the statement we make our own luck...

We have to be deserving to ride the luck too. I quote who else but the Bard:
"There is a tide in the affairs of men, Which taken at the flood, leads on to fortune. Omitted, all the voyage of their life is bound in shallows and in miseries. On such a full sea are we now afloat. And we must take the current when it serves, or lose our ventures."

When good things happen to me I'd find my self say "I was blessed" than "I was lucky" so I'd rather believe I'm blessed than lucky.

@Shiva49 Yes, "blessed" do have that religious flavour. I tend to attribute it to the good Lord.

we do have a lot to do with how far a lucky break takes us. but i believe God decides most of it also.

Some people do seem to be very lucky in life or rather being in the right place at the right time!

A chance encounter with one person can change our fortunes.
We can call that luck, destiny or grace but it does happen.

I believe in statistics. But as for fortune, it's definitely true that it's easier for me to "pull myself up by my bootstraps" than for those who were born into poverty, an abusive family, and/or a subculture that scoffs at hard work.

In most poor countries, rule of law is ineffective.
Many children have limited access to education and forced to live by their wits to survive.
It is indeed a tough environment.
They are not inclusive societies but the awareness is more now for effecting the needed change - siva

I have been very lucky in many ways, survived some accidents that could have killed or paralyzed me, made some bad (and very good) decisions in love and financial matters, but overall have lived these 77 years and so far have a working brain and body, so yes, I guess I am lucky.
