I thought the new year would give me better luck than last year

We went from Florida to New Jersey to spend the holidays with my kids. We planned on being there 10 days and due to the big snow storm in the northeast, we were there over 2 weeks. My husband and I were very anxious to get home as we were both sick. I am positive I got the bug from my grandson. He was smart and went to the emergency room and got some meds. We didn't do that. On the ride home I ended up getting worse and worse and stopped in North Carolina to stay the night and never went to eat dinner. We had been traveling for 8 hours and didn't stop to eat as I was really not well. We got on the road the next morning and I was afraid to eat anything so we went on our merry way. I slept most of the way. By the time we got home we were both so tired and sick and just collapsed. Today we are still sick but it feels so good to be in our own home.

Thank you. A few good naps and good night of sleep will help.

@ramapo17 I got pain relief medications, at least I am not in pain. It's not a cold or flu for me, it's a renal colic.

@ramapo17 I'm just glad you two made it back safely. I have too many memories of barely dragging in from a road trip, knowing I could have hurt everyone if I had fallen asleep while driving.

@sallypup That can be dangerous if a person is tired.

I am really agreeing with you. Usually when I get home I unpack and start doing laundry immediately but I am not up for that. I slept for hours after we got home. The worst thing is both my husband and I are sick at the same time. Usually one is first and then the other but this time it is different.

That must have been a nightmare trip home. And I've read how you had a flood in the bathroom too. What a shame.

It is a good way to get things cleaned out but not after a long trip and being sick. We aren't going anywhere so I can take all the time I want. The problem is drying the carpeting out. It is taking forever. I am glad you will not need the old fashioned way.

@JudyEv I had fans on for the last 2 days and I took everything out of the closet. Being we are in Florida we didn't take any heaters that we had up north. I had the windows opened all day as it is very cool and windy. This whole week is suppose to be in the 50's. I am going to use my hair dryer if I need to tomorrow.

@ramapo17 I know carpets take ages to dry. I hope it doesn't start to smell.

I am glad you are feeling better. The house we stayed in was so cold and right on the lake and the wind was crazy and the temperatures were below zero. I kept telling everyone here in Florida I missed the winters in the northeast but I think I just changed my mind.

If you are going to be sick it is best to be sick in your own home. I hope you are feeling better now.

You are so right about that. There is nothing like my own bed and surroundings.

It does sound like you caught the flu bug from your grandson, Nancy... I do hope being home and getting some real rest has been helpful! Did you and your hubby get the flu shot this year? (Pretty and I won't get the shot anymore.) I've only gotten the flu three times that I know of. All three times the doctor told me that I must have picked up the flu germs right before I got the shot. I don't believe her. It seems too much of a coincidence that I would get the flu ONLY the same three times I was given the flu shot... I know I was exposed to the flu virus a few days ago. A lady was in Walmart talking about how lucky she was to be able to get to the store since she was sick with the flu, before the colder temperatures hit this area. If I do catch the flu from that lady, it will be the first time since I stopped getting those shots. (I'll let you know if I do come down with the flu.) Feel better, Dearheart!

Thanks. It seems like I am always getting something. I guess this comes with age and not taking care of myself plus the fact I still think I am young and won't get sick.
