Sitting here thinking

I'm sitting here with my morning cuppa and got to thinking. First I got dressed then did some more thinking and then some wondering. So I'm going to give it a try an see if the censors let this through. I got to thinking about the fire and my house burning down. Not only was it all my personal stuff that burned up but also my business stuff. You see, I design and make teddy bears. I've been a teddy bear artist for over 30 years. The bears I make have arms and legs that move, and in the business they're classified as "jointed". Some of the first jointed bears I made I used plastic joints in them. But they broke very quickly, and that wasn't the standards for quality that I set for myself. So I did some research and found that back in the " good old days" they used wood discs and cotter pins to connect the arms legs and head to the body. I bought my first joints from a teddy bear maker's supply house. I got to thinking and some figuring and discovered that even with paying me minimum wage it was cheaper for me to make the joints. So, I went out and bought what I needed and made my own joints. I would cut out two to three thousand at a time. That would last me about a year. I had just done a cutting of joints when the fire struck. I now am back at the point of needing joints. Do I go out and buy the drill, blades, and wood I need to make the joints or do I give in and buy them? Even with having to buy a drill and the hole saw blades again its still about 75% cheaper than ordering them already made. I've been getting the other items I need for making bears, and I've been making them too. I have a few made for my fund raiser for the animal shelters, I just need to order the tags to go on them and it's all set to go. When it reaches that point I'll post a picture of the bears and kitties on the lot. Until then I'll just babble about them. Ahhh, now to see if this gets past the censor. Wow! It did!!! Wonder of wonders, I thought joints would disqualify it!

I recall you telling us this before. How awful. I used to have an entire family of the "jointed" teddy bears. The early version. They burned in a fire. Joints are okay now days on here. JJ wrote a post about this very thing.

I'm sorry about repeating myself. I lost my early creations, my awards that I had won for my designs and excellence in craftsmanship. I also lost the bears that I would finish that my mom would take a liking too and steal during the night. She was so darned cute about taking the bears I'd make that she liked. All she had to do is ask for them, but it was more fun for her if she " bearnapped" them.. I'm getting very close to posting the first pictures of the bears for the sales for the shelters. Please watch for them, I have a reason.

That's terribly sad about your fire experience. Years ago my family's house-cabin burned and I lost some heritage pieces let alone a beloved cat. That kind of sadness sticks with a person. I'm sorry. I still have the teddy bear that my family gave me cause I had to get my tonsils out when I was four. He's a huge mess but still around!
