When you're a cat person and you were gifted a dog?

Watched this stand up comedy, can't remember his name, talking about how he liked cats more than dogs and likened both animals to a roommate. If a cat was his roommate, he'd walk into someone who would like to hug and maybe kiss and then walk away to do his own business. Then, they'd be ignoring each other the rest of the day up until he's hungry. A dog, however, would be someone so full of energy, wants to play a game outside, maybe compete on who pisses the farthest, etc etc. In the end, a more pathetic "cat" roommate would be his preference. And I suddenly realized that, yes, that is so me. Then I looked at my dog and felt really guilty. It's like having a daughter when you wanted a son, and that shouldn't be a reason to love them any less. Now, to practice on that piss.

I used to be a cat person, but since I got a dog I appreciate them more now. Most specially when I noticed he can also hut down rats.

wow that's really handy to have around! Wish my dog can be more helpful lol. She's a cutie. The good thing about not having a cat is to not have to deal with the fur which is harder to get rid of than a dog's fur but of course, again, won't make me love it any less.

@Theresaaiza I learned later that the dog can also hunt rats and other prey.

@Letranknight2015 makes sense, cause they are descendants of wolves after all. Us domesticating them have dulled that instinct I suppose. Have you heard of cat island? Not sure if that's just urban myth but after they've been released to the wild, they have become wild as well. Can't pet them anymore. They've learned to hunt again. Then, rumours broke out about a mob of street dogs started attacking as a group, just like a pack of wolves.

I will still love the pet although I am more of a 'dog' person. I think I can take care of cats and dogs together. Pet maintenance is not easy though.

True. I realized that now too now that I have a pet. They do need extra care.
