Are you concerned about aging and retirement?

Recently I have heard from so many people about their concern about retiring and getting older. I never thought about things like that as I have always been active in one way or another and just took each year as they happened. I never had any plans of things I wanted to do when I got to the age I am today. I didn't know and I still don't know, how I am suppose to act or feel, is there a certain way I am suppose to feel or act. As far as I am concerned, I am me and will never change unless something makes me. No one will make me change as I am a very stubborn person. How about you, are you expecting a big change in your life as you get older?

As early as now, I already have plans of what to do when I finally reach the retirement age. I also have in my mind to sleep more and to continue exercising but doing it more often by then.

That sounds like a good plan.

@ramapo17 Thank you. We have to plan ahead so we have a goal even in our retirement age.

@SIMPLYD It is amazing how fast the days go even when I am not doing anything. In the warmer weather I am outside most of the day as I am always creating new gardens and love getting dirty.

My husband and I were blessed to be able to retire early (I was 56 and he was 60.) We've had some health problems, like all seniors, but we enjoy life and our family.

Age and retirement came naturally to me. I did not think of it and I did not ask for it.

I agree with you. When I look back I think, where did that time go. I still don't believe I am 76 already but do not feel like it at all. If I pass a mirror, I wonder who that is looking back at me.

None at all. Wednesday evening when I was having with my friends, one of them told me that I should have a big celebration on my coming birthday, I was puzzled why I should do that and then I realised, I'm turning 40. Here, turning 40 seems to be a big thing because it means you're getting older, middle aged woman! I never really considered that nor have I thought of myself as an old woman. Thus, I am not expecting any big change in my life at all.

@ramapo17 When my mom was 40 she never looked as fit as me and I used to imagine I would look just like her but I was wrong. She was taking hypertension meds and was frequently admitted to the hospital back then. She was in a lot of stress as my parents were extremely busy people, each running their own businesses. I think that made me promise myself that even if I work hard earning a lot of money, I should never neglect myself, health wise. So I do things I enjoy the most and I make myself feel beautiful inside and out.

I wish I was 40 again. Heck, my daughter is going to be 50 in April. I do not know where that time went.

The only big changes for us are leisure time (more) and income (less). I am as active as ever and still quite healthy. Anne is less so, but still able to make her beloved art quilts. She has a show in our club house for the next four months.

That is great that she stays so busy. I am always amazed how fast the days go even when I have nothing planned.

I think I will take this as a day to day basis. We need to have some short term goals which lead us to a larger goal (for retirement). Planning is important but execution is necessary for us to get there.

I want to have a big change ofcourse ! I have goals in life, that's the reason why I am working so hard now a days to achieve that goals. I want to have a peaceful, stress-free and happy retirement life.

We have been making small changes as we go along. Hopefully downsizing and making other choices will make the difference for us.

It is funny how even though I have been retired for awhile already I still don't have time for everything.

I am already retired, I have not at all changed my habits or the way we live.

Not something that I constantly think about at this age yet, but I think it's never early to prepare for that financially, mentally and physically.

The only noticeable change for me was being to travel whenever I want (no more waiting for school vacations), more time to read, and being able to enjoy my vacation home in the winter. Actually, our income hasn't changed much either.

Good for you. We work so long and it is nice to see ourselves not running so crazy everyday. Sometimes I do miss going to work and being with lots of people. On the other hand, I do not miss getting up at 2am and having to go out by 3am.

At some stage we will have to decide if we want to stay where we are or downsize. If we were to become unable to drive, we'd have to shift so best to make some sort of plan before the decision is forced upon us.

We downsized 3 years ago and this is it, unless one of my kids want me with them but I can't see me doing that. I like to come and go as I please.
