Electric Bill

Just got my bill and almost fainted. Now mind you; in the Winter I always keep my thermostat at about 72 degrees (22.22 c) to save on heating costs. It's to the point where I feel like I need to wear my earmuffs and gloves on in the house (crappy insulation). Now mind you my cost for a kw is .039 (about 4 cents). Since I used 2,833 Kw, that came to $110.49. Okay, that's fine BUT, the company that actually provides the energy TO the energy companies feels they should charge a monthly fee too. Ya know how much that was???? $107.61. Not to mention a base charge of $4.95. That's a total of $223.05. Are you kidding me!!!! I guess I'm helping to pay for the hurricanes that hit Texas and Puerto Rico.

Is the bill correct or has there perhaps been a calculating mistake?

72 F (22.20 C) is a very comfortable temperature inside the house, we keep more or less the same. In Italy they cannot, due to the pollution laws nobody can heat the house more than 68 F (20 Celsius). It's a bit cold for me.

It would be warmer in here if it wasn't for the fact that there is no insulation in the ceiling or walls and the doors are made of metal @LadyDuck . The heat has to kick on constantly to try to maintain any heat.

@sugartoes You must have good insulation in that house.

That is way too high. Did you get it rectified? Ask for notifications relating to hike?

Nope. Oncor Energy is the supplier to all electric companies and they are no longer regulated so they can do anything they want. I wish I could afford Solar Energy; you can bet I'd have those panels on my roof in a heartbeat @vandana7 .

Wow! That's a lot of heat. I have my heater set between 75-77 and nothing more for that. I rarely use it at night. Hope you can lower that bill.

In order to cut costs I unplug my refrigerator for four hours every day.

Believe it or not that is an excellent idea because the refer is one of the appliances that pulls the most electric @Kandae11 .

Wow, that is quite the bill. That is a lot. 110 for the heating alone isn't too bad, but I don't understand why they have to add that other fee and everything else.

I keep mine at 60 to 63 most of the time and this month I owe $147, yeah, kinda high but here the electric co always hikes their prices in winter cause most folks around here have gas furnaces.

WOW, that is some electric bill. Is there any way you can find another company to supply electricity. Here in Latvia what happens is that they ask you to give them a reading from your electricity and then they figure out how much kw you average during a month and calculate what you have to pay. I have been lucky that my bills have been quite low but then I don't really use too much. My biggest expense during the winter is two electric heaters which have to be going all the time and yet this is an old and drafty house so only two rooms can be heated really well.

If I’m helping to pay for the hurricanes, it’s really fine but if they just overcharge me that’s another story.

Yikes! Might it be worth it to get a wood stove for heat?

That extra monthly fee is completely ridiculous, how is that justified?!
