Getting ready to tie dye

Ready to tie dye.

I've been planning to tie dye for quite awhile. The weather was finally nice enough to get going and follow my plans. I got out the card table, the newspaper to cover the tables, the pearl cotton and the alpaca fur/fabric, and the dye. I laid out the pearl cotton, rubber banded the alpaca fur/fabric, and shook up the bottles of dye well. Then Petey joined me to help with what he considered a too tough of a job for me to do! Suddenly there were large orange tabby paws reaching in and moving nozzles around the area that I was trying to position the dye for placement... Other bottles were being tipped over and dye was being splashed in unplanned areas. Soon there were large orange tabby paws stepping on wet areas of dye. He was having a wonderful time tie dying the pearl cotton and soon the alpaca fur/fabric. Somehow, somewhere along the process I lost control of the situation and he was totally enjoying doing all the tie dying work! He didn't dye himself too baldly. He did get some green on himself that went well with the orange. When he declared the dying finished, he jumped down from the table and went to his blanket for a well earned nap. The photo was taken by me.

Petey looks cute, I hope that nothing important has been stained in the process.

@BearArtistLady If you are guest in his house you must do what he asks. I would also dislike this kind of messy inside my house.

@LadyDuck I totally understand. I always do my tie dying outside. My carport would be rainbow colored during warm weather. The dye would wash off in a few days. I had one room in my house just for cutting out the bears and then for sewing them together. I always kept the mess to a minimum in my house too.

Petey had a few red and aqua spots on his paws and a green stripe going from the top of his head, down his neck and across his shoulders. That was the extent of the dye job. He cleaned the dye off his feet, but he has been green for a few days. His next project will be cutting out mohair bears and cats from the mohair that survived the fire. He'll be laying in the middle of the mohair for sure. It may happen as soon as this Saturday if the weather permits. I have to do the cutting outside because its kind of messy and my boyfriend doesn't do messy in his house. Since I'm a guest here until things get straightened out about my house burning down I'm living with him and his way of doing things.

Awww just look at that scheming, sinister face! Looks like he enjoyed it way more than you did.

He has so much fun "helping" us with what we do. We love having his furry paws and tail in what we're doing. You're right, I'm sure at times he is scheming his next project to "help" us with. I have to admit the tie dying turned out great! Nothing like a cat to help!

@BearArtistLady awww just imagining it makes me so warm and fuzzy. I really love cats. They're very curious and likes to dip their paws in very sticky (or colorful) situations.

@Theresaaiza There is something very special about Petey. He is always close by to stir things up no matter what we're working on. Sometimes he ends up a huge mess, but he cleans himself up and is ready for the next job. I love the big guy, and so does the whole neighborhood!!!. Often, when we can't find him in the yard we'll look around and we'll find him contentedly curled up in a neighbor's lap enjoying being hand fed kitty treats. Or he'll be helping the neighbors with a repair job or other chore, then he gets his treats and petting. Lots of the neighbors grandchildren want to take Petey home with them. You can hear the cries of disappointment when they find out Petey has a home. But they brighten up when. They find out that they can visit Petey anytime. Petey and I had been waiting for a warm sunny day to do some dying. Our next big job will be drawing and cutting out the bears for Phoenix Critters. Bill doesn't like a mess in his house, so I have to do that work outside. I guess it's off to breakfast, then I get to go to work on teddy bears. Oh, of course I need to feed Mr. Petey. Have a wonderful day filled with happiness and love and good things. Hugs to all from Petey and me!

Petey took on the role of dog and cat right after the fire burned down my house. He is a riot! He rides around on Bill's gas cart so proudly. He loves being in the middle of what we're doing so he can help any way he can. He decided that I really needed him and so he isn't too far away. I thought I would be able to sneak the tie dying inn without his helping... I was wrong! . He truly is a devoted assistant!
