As threatened, ahem, promised earlier today, I’m gonna kick it in, second wind (a Jimmy Buffett song that didn’t make the list) and blow my ten favorite songs with “wind” in the title through myLot. This countdown theme is courtesy of @JohnRoberts , who also recommended the recent “highway” series by @teamfreak16 . John knows how to suggest ‘em! Here’s the first “windy” song on the list. #10: Santa Ana Winds - Steve Goodman I remember, the first time I heard this song, thinking that Chicago Shorty (he was 5’2”) wrote this song about missing a departed lover not for himself, but for his wife. The theme of missing someone who’s gone is something that Nancy Goodman would have to endure: Steve lost his 15-year battle with leukemia four days before this album was released. For all that somber backstory and lyrical content, however, the melody to this song is upbeat and jazzy. It’s one of those songs you find yourself tapping your toes to or snapping fingers to. That was always Steve Goodman’s style: never focusing on the death sentence that hung over his head (he never started writing songs until after he was diagnosed) but on bringing happiness through music. Santa Ana Winds Written by Steve Goodman, Mary Gaffney, and Mike Jordan Recorded by Steve Goodman From Santa Ana Winds, 1984 Tonight’s my night:

I can't remember if you did a city series. Obviously City of New Orleans and there is a Santa Ana, CA.

City and country. Use “City of New Orleans,” how could I not?
It's time to pair the big city against the country in this new countdown series. Here I'll count down my ten favorite songs with 'city' in the title, as well...

Jazzy, groovy, and bummer lyrics that don't sound so bummer because of the music. I loved the sax.

Yeah, the music really contradicts the lyrics, doesn’t it. I think that’s one of the reasons I love this song so much.

@teamfreak16 — they should have left that song as it was originally. The original version, a dying man basically flipping off his wife and three people who had affairs with her, is hilarious.

@FourWalls - They should have done this with "Seasons in the Sun."
