Because I've been getting a lot of cold calls these days from people telling me to switch to a cheaper electric company to choosing between cremation vs coffin, I have decided to not pick up phone calls with an unregistered number. If a call is really important they would know to leave a message and a call back number. This is now how I could tell which one is a legit phone call. I used to answer each of these and feel bad about telling them to go away. Can you imagine yourself doing telemarketing? I can't.

I can't wait until I retire and have plenty of time on my hands. I'll get great pleasure from giving the telemarketers the run around. They won't call back.

I love your retirement goals. Maybe throw in some scammers on your list as well.

We have a land line phone for emergencies. It rarely rings....but when it does...it's always a telemarketer of even a scam call. I no longer answer that phone.

I don't know how people can stay in a telemarketing job. The scammers, I understand. Cause that's what scammers do, they just have to be bloody persistent otherwise they can't scam! But some telemarketers are people actually needing legit jobs. You probably develop a calloused attitude after rejection after rejection.

@Theresaaiza I know some telemarketers....they need an income...they have no qualifications and this gets them the money to live while pursuing other avenues.

@Morleyhunt Oh fair enough. Cause I suppose money's really good if you can actually convince someone to buy.

I hate unwanted calls such as those offering these and that.

I agree. I don't think I've ever heard anyone who says they look forward to getting calls from telemarketers.

I pity those who accept to do telemarketing to earn some money. I can imagine how many rude replies they get to their calls.

A friend of mine used to do sales and part of the marketing scheme was to do cold calls, see if someone would like to enrol in courses they offered. They had legit services at least. She did get clients but most of the time she gets the rude ones too. Suffice it to say, she didn't last long in that job

I heard a statistic a couple days ago that was in the millions of robo calls sent to people in the US alone. And how many per person that amounts to. I am so sick of those calls. No, I would never do telemarketing. I worked in a call center, but those calls were all inbound. I didn't call anyone.

I truly get you. I simply don't answer as I don't like being rude to anyone.

I can't either. I listen to audiobooks sometimes. So I answer and let them hear the book I'm listening to. Or the tv. I hang up later when the beeping happens.

A friend of mine recorded her voice message saying "Hello? Who is this? How can I help?" as a prank. And she guffaws (not just laugh, guffaws) at each and every caller's recorded message, frantically responding to her hello's thinking she answered.

I used to work in a clinic where we phoned patients to come back for their results, or to keep them on top of their blood tests. And I thought that was the most depressing thing I had to do in a day's work. Imagine telemarketers.

the ones from the phone company of our landline seem to call in cycles. sometimes they're calling and calling, different people, same offers. sometimes they're silent for months.

I finally found a way to block some of these repetitive numbers. Doesn't stop all of them but I'm certainly eliminating them one by one.

So, now you're experience outgoing calls from another country, maybe it's time to use an answering machine or something. Or probably check youtube for advices.
A clip I found while watching Seinfeld and just had to upload it. Remember to like and comment, it really helps.

OOOh Seinfeld I do have a voice message saying "F* off telemarketers". Kidding. I do have a voice message on my phone. So if the caller didn't leave a message, well, sorry.

I don't like these types of calls. This is why we have caller ID and if we don't recognise the number we can simply reject the call.

For now, my general rule is, if unregistered, I don't pick up. If they leave a message and tell me who they are, I'll ring back. No voice message? Sorry.

Almost everyday I read complaints filed about these cold calls at sites like I personally get at least 2 calls from unfamiliar numbers each and everyday. Now I choose to just ignore them. It won't waste my time answering each of those unknown calls.
