Darkest Hour review

Tuesday we went to see Darkest Hour. It is one of the best movies I have ever seen. I want to see it again. You will not believe it is Gary Oldman, he is that convincing as a hard-drinking, not always confident Winston Churchill. The time covered in this movie is very short, it is from the crisis that led to Churchill being elected Prime Minister to the rescue at Dunkirk, less than a month. You get a very good look at how Neville Chamberlin and Lord Halifax tried to undermine Churchill right from the start and their policy of peace and appeasement made them blind to what really needed to be done. I was thinking thank God for Churchill through much of this movie. It made me cry, it made me laugh, it made me appreciate courage in the face of terrible odds and most of all it made me like King George IV and Winston Churchill and the understanding they finally reached. This is a movie I want to see again and I can highly recommend it. Lily James did a very good job as Churchill's secretary and Kristin Scott Thomas is a wonderfully sympathetic Clemmie and of course Gary Oldman who was magnificent.

Gary Oldman is made to look older I assume. Sounds like an interesting movie to watch.

We have plans to see it next week. Can't wait. I got to see a production of his earlier life that his granddaughter produced at the museum we visited recently. It brought us right up to where this movie begins. Lol!

I've heard good things about this movie. If the weather is going to be what I'm hoping for this coming weekend through Tuesday, I'll have something to watch if they plow the parking lot.

There has been a lot written about Churchill over the years and more so once the freedom of information laws came into being. I don't doubt his great work but he did use the young Australian troops as dispensable cannon fodder.

I can imagine that, he was very much an aristocrat and not used to caring about the great unwashed so to speak. Still, he was what they needed at the time.

@BelleStarr I'm inclined to think that too. But the public were a bit fickle and voted him out after the war was over.

@BelleStarr Wow, it must be a good movie. Chamberlain was such a wuss and without Churchill, who knows how the war would have ended up.

I've heard a lot about Winston Churchill in the Christian world. I might as well see this movie to know more of him.

I saw the Golden Globes and an interview on one of the talks shows with Oldman. The make-up and such. He is such a good actor anyway.
