Ten Favorite Wind Songs: Against the Wind (#9)

Winding up the day here, I’m going to give you another song that has “wind” in the title. The “wind” here is the element between earth and fire in the R&B band’s name, not what you do to an old alarm clock. Here’s the next song on my list of favorites. #9: Against the Wind - Bob Seger Ah, back in “those days,” Seger said he lost an average of six pounds a night onstage from all the sweating he did. I saw him on the Against the Wind tour in Jacksonville, and I can vouch for that. That was one hot, energetic show!! Over the years this has almost become a country music staple (with the Highwaymen and Brooks & Dunn covering it), but to me it’s just a really good Bob Seger song. No, not his “best,” but he has few duds (even “Like a Rock” wasn’t that bad until Chevrolet played it to death in their commercials). And, as I’m older now, I understand what he meant in this song. I didn’t “long ago,” but that “seems like yesterday” to me as well. And your trivia: the backing vocalist on this song is an old friend of Seger’s from their youth in Detroit. His name is Glenn Frey. A Great song by Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band! I love older songs as their from a time when bands gave a real effort and put their true soul into their music!

That's a great song and his is the best version. It is interesting that Frey was on the record too.

Frey sang backup on “Ramblin’ Gamblin’ Man” In 1968. They went back far together.

Terrific song and lyrics! Seger won the 1980 Best Rock Performance for this tune. It seems one's whole life is a perpetual "running against the wind."
