Yes, during the Fall months, they build nests up in the trees, out of sticks and leaves. Their young are nestled inside this nest, while they are very young. During the winter, they all crawl inside these nests and draw heat one from the other.

I haven't seen one because there are no squirrels over here @Hannihar I bet it would annoy a lot of rats, cats and even my dog if he even see one.

I know some have shelter, because they store nuts for winter, and I thought they slept in between eating.

@JolietJake
Thanks JJ for posting it. That was so nice of you to take pictures of them to show me or us here.

As was mentioned they have their nests. Believe you me, they are fine during winter. They are always at my bird feeder no matter the weather. Just like a mail carrier who delivers mail through rain, sleet, and snow, lol.

@Hannihar They have their trucks but some towns they deliver at your door if that is where the mailbox is located. So there is some walking involved. As for the squirrels they taunt me by sitting on my deck and eating their nuts. Pesky little devils

@Hannihar No not that close Hanni. When I open the patio door to my deck they run off. But they do go into my garden and eat my vegetables in summer.
