Dinner Delivered to Your Door

Recently, we discovered a new service in our neighborhood. It is a company which will deliver a complete dinner to our home for about $19 to $25, depending on whether or not we order a dessert. A complete dinner includes a meat choice, such as steak, shrimp, chicken, ribs, or salmon. Then, you get two vegetables of your choice and, with some of the meals, a side salad. You can also order a slice of pie, cookies, brownies or other desserts. One meal is enough to feed both my husband and me, and we are completely satisfied. That's a pretty good deal for under $25. Since there is no delivery charge and no tipping, it is much easier and less expensive than going out to dinner ... especially on a rainy or chilly day. Unfortunately, I think these dinners are only available in our neighborhood, but we are taking full advantage of it. Do you ever order dinner delivered to your house? What do you prefer ... pizza, Chinese, or something else? I find myself wondering if dinner delivery is becoming more popular for other people, too! We love it!

For busy people who have to go to work it's practical but for stay at home grandmothers like me I prefer to cook our meals. We do occasionally order pizza but generally avoid fast food.

Yes, we have occasionally ordered pizzas, but I am really enjoying this food delivery, especially now that I am in my late 60s and don't always want to cook.

Oh I wish that were available here! We aren't big eaters and can often share a meal if it works out. That does sound an excellent deal.

@JudyEv - We think it is a good deal, too. Some people have commented they could not afford even that amount, and I understand, but this service is so easy and the food has been really good, so far!

@JudyEv - We go out for Chinese food once in a while, too, but the food is often too salty for my husband, since he has advanced kidney disease. This place honors our request not to put salt on our meal. That is wonderful.

@DeborahDiane We would be very happy to pay that every week or so. That is really good value. We used to go to Chinese once almost every week and the prices were really good. I miss those days.

@marguicha - I'm sure you are a better cook than I am, if you cook everything from scratch. Your food is probably as good as what I get from this service.

A similar service existed when we lived in Monte-Carlo. We ordered a few times, but food is only good when it is prepared and immediately served. If I am not in the mood of cooking we dine out, else I make at home.

@DeborahDiane Of course it depends what you order, if I order a pizza is fine, a steak will arrive over cooked, same for pasta. I know what happens if I keep those food in the oven for 5 minutes.

@LadyDuck - Pizza is an amazing meal, when you think about it. It can easily be found nearly everywhere, and almost everyone has at least some type of pizza which they really like. I know a lot of people who can even eat leftover pizza cold, the next day. Pretty incredible as a versatile, portable meal!

@LadyDuck - This food is still hot when they deliver it. I think they must have a warming oven in the delivery cars. We eat out sometimes, too, but this is nice when I am feeling really lazy!!

Hmmm... that sounds interesting, DD... I live in a small city. Very little delivers here. One of the local Pizza places delivers and one Chinese food place delivers. We don't use either one. My ex-wife used both, though. When she and I began getting divorced she kept ordering food delivered to my house. Of course, she didn't pay for any of the food, so they wanted me to pay for the foods she called in. The first couple of times it was fine. I paid for the food and enjoyed it. After that, I told them that if the call didn't come from my phone number, they should ignore it. She still tried to send more food to us several times. Enough times that none of the food places here will accept orders for my address anymore, no matter who calls the order in!

@DaddyEvil - Oh, my! That really was pretty vindictive of your ex-wife. My husband was married before we got married 46 years ago! Although we avoid his ex-wife when we can, when one of my step-daughters was stricken by a brain aneurysm and we drove up to Northern California to be there, my husband's ex-wife called us on the road and told us she would leave the back door open and we could stay at her place, which we did. I thought that was very decent of her. She hasn't always been so pleasant, believe me!

I wish! we live so far out in the country we haven't found anyone who delivers. A few times I saw a pizza place on the top of a car and got excited they deliver. Nope, just someone going or coming home from work!

@Daelii - You must live really deep in the country if you cannot even get pizza delivered! Maybe someone will open a place in your area. Sounds like there could be a demand for it.

This would be a Great thing for people out of town traveling, and do not really know the area, but if almost sounds like what they do in Houston at some of the Hotels for choices for Food delivery, or like Uber Eats to where you can order a lot of different types of meals and have them delivered if you like.

So convenient having these food deliveries around. Apart from Meals on Wheels which is a council-run program especially for the Elderly community, and Menulog which is just a normal app for restaurant food deliveries, and UberEats - another delivery service that is gaining popularity, I haven't heard of something that is exclusive for a certain neighborhood. However, it sounds like it is a very great service.

I'm glad to here there are similar services where you live. Now that I am in my late 60s, it is nice to have the option of ordering our dinner delivered, and I think $25 or less for two people is pretty reasonable for an occasional dinner.

@just4him - Yes, we have tried three different meals and all three of them have been as good as anything we have ever had in a restaurant, but for a lot less money. It is hard to eat out and get a good, healthy meal for $20 total for two people!

@DeborahDiane The little store in town, which is the only store unless we go into town. Which wither way is about twenty miles does have pizza and wings you can pick up already cooked. So we do it some times.
