A use for everything if you keep it long enough

We rarely throw anything out. Mind you, we have 18 acres and quite a large house so we’re able to find a place to store most things until we might need them. The latest stuff to be used is a couple of packs of carpet tiles. We have 11 tiles of one pattern and slightly more of another two patterns. Some were used in the first bus that we started to convert to a motor-home. The rest have been languishing in the shed. I suddenly had the bright idea that they could be used in the Music Shack to cover most of the cement floor. As you can see, it’s a bit rough and ready but still better than grey cement. The ten patterned tiles go down the middle of the floor and the other two are spread evenly on either side. No-one gets really close enough to notice that they’re not all the same and no-one cares anyway. They come to the listen to the music. The concert went off very well. It was quite a balmy night and no-one needed big jackets. Thanks for all the good wishes sent our way. We had 12 here for breakfast (two musicians and eight friends) and now they’ve all gone home and we’re left with just a bit of clearing away to do. We’ll start on that as soon as it cools off a little. But to get back to the focus of this discussion – I’m pleased we hung on to the carpet tiles. We’ll use them for each concert now. It’s just a pity we hadn’t thought to use them before.

It's a good idea and nicer than plain cement. I also keep everything, but now that I am going through the things of my mother, I think I will start to throw things. It is a pain for those who have to go through your stuff.

@JudyEv I have spent the day in my mom's apartment yesterday, my brother, my niece and her fiancee helped and during all the day we have been able to clear only one bedroom and the bath. I have to plan to start clearing my home.

@LadyDuck I understand. Clearing out my mother's house made me much more aware of how difficult it will be for our sons if we leave too much behind.

That's very true. I do get rid of household stuff but we always seem to find a use for bits and pieces of timber and iron if we keep them.

I tend to keep things - I have lots of old computer lead, plugs and connectors - occassionally I find something they fit

@JudyEv it is always for the best. People have told me to get rid of some junk right before i've found a use for it

I had Vince go through our old leads, etc and we have thrown out some but we still have at least one drawer full of computer 'bits' that might be needed one day.

I love making what is old new. This looks great and I'm sure that it cut down on the echo that cement has a tendency of creating.

We've had the tiles for ages. It a bit of a pity that we didn't think of doing this before - but better late than never I guess.

I've found uses of things I've hung onto. With the long distance move I am purging. I've sold a few things...I've donated several large boxes and bags....hubby has noted heavier trash bags and fuller recycling bins.

Once we give up the concerts we'll have a heap of stuff to repurpose too. I try to keep household things under control.

The carpet tiles will make it better for feet as being on hard concrete isn't good.

I too store things for a 'just in case' situation. They are not in the main house but in the other one. Did those guests who spent the night with you help you with chores?

The three couples who stayed apart from the musicians are old friends and are very helpful. They also know where things are kept if I was busy and not able to be looking after them.

Yes but they're not stuck down as the rain comes in the front and the floor fills with leaves, etc. We'll just pack them up each time and store them in a lock-up shed for next time.

I recycle almost everything and store the unused things before I get ideas what to do with them. That looks indeed good and it is better than just a cement floor.

Very true and it does look prettier.another way I saw was breaking up the tiles when not enough and using the boys and pieces like a mosaic in cemented floors. Good to know concert went well

I think it would make things a bit cozier, and possibly even help the acoustics. The tiles down the middle look like an aisle in an auditorium.

I think it would help the acoustics too. We have two old blankets hanging down the back wall then shade-cloth on all the walls to try to help with the sound.

They're not stuck down so we've stored them away for the next concert. The rain can blow in the front of the Shack and it fills with leaves and grit between times.

The carpet tiles look good covering the bare concrete. And besides, bare concrete can feel quite cold on bare feet...not that you musicians are playing barefooted or anything! lol

We have cleaned out our big shed as there was some stuff in it that we really couldn't see ourselves ever using but now there is room to store things better. For instance the tiles were on top of a cupboard but now that we'll be using them from time to time we've stored them at a more convenient height.
